Shopping
Platinum Fashion Mall - must go! wholesale prices, fully aircon, things are pretty new.

MBK shopping centre (adjacent to it is the Tokyu shopping centre) - the bridge that connects the above shopping centres are full of peddlers selling cheap and nice things.

Naraya at World Trade Centre - shop selling lots of bags and small purses etc. ladies love them.

the rest of the shopping centres, in my opinion, are too expensive (at least for me).

Night Market
Suan Lam Night Market - must go. lots of restaurants at reasonable prices. and more shopping of cos.

Chatuchak Market is only open during the weekends. Things are getting expensive there but if you are a first timer, might want go take a look.

There are a few things that I will consider best in BKK. One is clothings. At Pratunam Wholesale Centre, you practically get all kind of clothes, mostly fashion. Bulk purchase brings the price down very rapidly. However you can get better quality clothings too in the same area. Pop into the shops in the plazas and hotels and buildings and they carry much better quality items, at a slightly higher price, but worth it for the quality. Be ready to walk around to source for your supplier.

The other thing is pottery. Clay and porcelain. They are cheap and you can scout around for a good manufacturer. For the price, you will never get it elsewhere. Head to Chatuchak weekend market or nearby shops if you are not there on weekend. Bulk purcahses will also lower the price quite a fair bit.

Handicrafts, these are quite cheap too. Scout around the weekend market, Suan Lum night bazaar and any roadside store with your query. Again if you purchase in bulk, the price is very attractive.

Oh yes, if you are into fruits, buying in BKK is real cheap, if you have your own transportation means. Head to the Provincince Agri Produce market and bulk buy. Seasonal tropical fruits.

That is what I can think of now.

Suits, shirts and all tailored items are a great bargain. You can get them done for a fraction of the cost that you would spend in any of the western countries. I got my suits stitched at Barons Fashions and they did a great job. For the money spent, it was a massive deal and I am very happy and satisfied with the great experience.

similar things can be found on kao san road than in the weekend market. besides, you can shop while sipping a chang and not be hasseled by the mobs of people and the huge space. just two-three hours in the weekend market and you'll wanna shoot yourself. so many stores.......
you cant beat the akka girls on kao san raod anyway.
