Hi, I just turned 18 yesterday, I'm a male, and i'm trying to find out how to get into the sport of golf. I have no clubs, so i'd like advice on where to find those too. I can spend aroung up to 500 dollars on clubs, but where can i play for next to nothing? Should i look into getting a job at a golfcourse near me?

thanks

$500 will get you pretty good stuff, and I'd look for a clean used set of whatever you like. Buy clubs you are excited about hitting, and you'll enjoy them more. Ask at a shop about beginner's sets. Get them fitted and maybe regripped too, that's not very expensive.

Golf course employees that I know play for free, but usually at off times, like late afternoons, but hey, it's free. Municipal courses are usually the cheapest to play, so look for a city course. They might offer group lessons for cheap too. If you are still in school, get into a golf class or club.

Good luck!

My husband has a 1 handicap. When he started at 16 he painted his parents house and they went to a pawn shop and bought him a used set of clubs. He played on the golf team at school so he was able to play on a course only then. He practiced every day hitting balls over his fense, putting into a cup, going to a driving range and buying a bucket of balls (not expensive). He then played on a local municipal golf course, in most bigger cities they have them. Which is a public golf course and usually the green fees are not very high. Why don't you look in the paper and see if you can buy a used set of clubs. Don't spend alot of money on them. Then the rest of the money you have keep it for when you go to the golf course. And yes another option would be to get a job at a golf course, on your off time you can play for free. Don't give up and you don't have to have a lot of money. Even now when my husband is making good money, he keeps the books for the country club and we get our dues free, plus a little money. He never took lessons from expensive golf pro's, so really my best advice would be to practice, practice, practice. Good Luck and go for it. :)

buy used clubs. and go to college and sign up for a golf class and volunteer at a local course. when you volunteer they usually let you on the range for free and let you play the course sometimes. depending on the course.
