True appetite is created through a hormone released by your stomach that tells your body you are hungry. Nicotine will contract your blood vessels in your stomach which will reduce the hormone production level (only when there is already food in the stomach).
The other aspect of smoking / dipping is the oral sensation. Sometimes appetite is associated with the physical desire to chew or put something in your mouth which will cause eating when you are not really hungry. Smoking / dipping can help aleviate this desire. Both, however, will dehydrate you which can cause a separate desire for food. The act of chewing (gum) can increase appetite as the body interprets the chewing as the act of getting food ready for the stomach. Your body will increase acid production in the stomach, which can lead to heartburn and ulcers.
There are significantly better methods to suppress your appetite than using tobacco.
If you already use tobacco, Herbal snuffs like Hooch Snuff, http://www.hoochsnuff.com, can assist in the oral stimulation without the negative impacts of tobacco.
If you don't currently use tobacco, don't start.

Yes, using tobacco products does suppress your appetite. It also increases your metabolism. It also kills your ability to taste food, so the enjoyment factor from eating is also dulled.
This, I suppose, is one of the few positive things about using tobacco, but mostly it's all bad. There are better ways to maintain your weight.

Smoking does. That's why most people who quit end up gaining 10 or more pounds.
