Power protect "could" refer to a reset button that protects from power surge. When ever there's a power surge the button will pop out . Which is designed to protect you stereo from getting fried. You push in the button to reset. Its sometimes located at the bottom of the unit or the back and colored red.

That's Sony's Engrish way of saying "the circuit breaker has blown". Reset it and if it "blows" again you have a problem in the higher current power supply some place. The lower voltage/current supply is working or your display wouldn't work. Sounds like the outputs could be blown and the protect circuit is shutting down the circuit.
