It seems that somee people have more problems with kidney stones than others and they have them more frequently.
Yes they are very painful and som of them may be too large to pass.
The newest treatment I know of is a form of ultrasound where you are immersed in water and the stones are blasted with sound waves to breakthen up, i have seen it to be very effective on the larger stones. This of course is also one of the answers to another of your questions as there is more than one way to use sound waves therapeutically where x-rays only take a picture, ultrasound can see movement of things like a fetus inside a uterus or blood flow in parts of the body.
I am not sure why ultrasound would not be used when they are "radiolucent" as "normal x-rays are one of the tools along with testing for blood, etc used to diagnose kidney stones, and it is good that they show up on xray as it provides positive proof of the problem.
I am sure you have gone to the doctor by this time as it sounds like you need pain medication that is stronger than you can get over the counter although it is my expierience that MOTRIN used with the narcotic pain meds is more effective with kidney stones than just the narcotic alone.
anyway I feel for you as I know they are one of the most painful conditions seen in the ER.
good luck

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

It's normal pain. Call your urologist and have him see you today. Tell him about the increased pain and blood. There are various ways to get rid of the stone, one is a basket extraction. A think cath is placed through your penis and when it reaches the stone it opens like a small umbrella , grabs the stone and removes it out of you body. Both the doctor has many other ways of taking care of it. Feel better soon. It the mean time drink alot of cranberry juice.

I get stones constantly. I have had them removed god knows how many times. If you lay in a bath tub with warm water that will help the spasms. Drink real lemon aid. Lemon juice has acid and breaks them down. I also use heating pads or the heat pouches that I can strap on. I know how you feel I had them while I was prego and had stents placed multiple times durring pregnancy and pissed blood for 14weeks...It is horrible I hope you feel better. You can talk to the Doctors about going up and blasting them and removing them they can do that...
Get help with it before they scar you kidney's I know how that is. It will hurt them bad

Hey dude I feel for you. I had a total of 13 in a two year spand. My problem ended up being a tumor on my parithyroid. You might keep this in mind if they continue to return. As far as dissolving Cranberry juice is good for the kidney and make sure you insist on seeing a specialist not just your average Doctor, I can't stress that enough. Goodluck.

Ouch! You may have to undergo surgery to have those suckers removed. It seems like the only option at this point if they are too big to pass and lithotripsy wont work.

If they are too big to pass then they will have to be surgically removed or broken up. The best thing to do it see the doctor, for now though increase your fluid intake of water or prune juice to try and pass the stones.

You need to get some strong *** pain killers.
For future reference, high fructose corn syrup has been linked to kidney stones. Watch out for soft drinks and other items containing it.
