do gentle stretching exercises like on your back bring up your right knee as close to your chest as possible and hold for 10 seconds, repeate 6 times, do the same with the left leg. another exercise is while lying on your stomach with your arms outstretched (like superman flying) now at the same time raise one arm and the opposite leg, hold for 5-10 seconds, repeat 6 times, and do the same with the opposite leg and arm

Try swimming and doing gentle crunches and side bending exercises in the water or in a warm shower to stretch and try to take the pressure off the sciatic nerve.

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body and is a cruital nerve at that. It will ususally begin to cause discomfort if you are constantly carrying heavy objects or even if you sit for long periods of time i.e. an offic ejob or school student. The best thing for it is rest and a concious effort to move every now and then when you are tied down to a chair. Try not sittign with your legs crossed or bent under the seat of the chair ( resting on your toes) it cause undue stress to the back of your legs and the sciatic nerve. If you have to be insituations that cause this pain, remebr to move around and take breaks.

(1) Go see a Physiatrist (fizz-eye-a-trist). He is a doctor of medicine and a chiropractor in one. They also do physical therapy.

(2) There is a book on amazon devoted to Sciatic nerve pain... just put those key words in the search bar

I thought I had sciatic nerve pain and it wound up being sacroiliac joint syndrome which I deal with through exercises.

Good Luck!

Ice it. That'll calm the nerves some. No more than 20 minutes at a time. It'll take a couple of days, but it will help. You may want to check out a chiropractor as well.

I dealt with this for years. I assumed that it was because I was overweight. My friend suffered from it too and her new husband told her she needed to crack her back. So he pick her up and twisted her in his arms and it stopped. So I started twisting myself at the waist until I felt something crack and then it was over. I think a chiropractor is a good idea.
