The only way to lose fat is to burn more calories than you consume in a day. Even with that, you can not choose where you lose fat from so you may starve yourself, weigh 120lbs, run, situps, shakes, etc....and may never lose the belly fat.
Unfortunately genetics has a lot to do with where fat is stored in our bodies. You can not eat or drink anything (protein shakes) to gain muscle. It is a great idea to eat healthy and do core exercies (abs and back exercises) to try and get rid fo the fat. It may take a long time or never happen at all. But eating healthy and exercising will be good for you health in the long run.

Protien shakes only benefit when you are building muscle. It keeps your body from metabolising protien from already existing muscle...so no, those types of shakes will not help you lose weight.
There is no such method for spot weight loss reduction. IT IS A MYTH. Building muscle in the stomach won't help either, it will only cause the overlayer of fat to push forward.
Its important to realize that fat cells don't disappear they only compress into smaller cell units ready to be used in the future for fat storage. Kind of like a bellows that can either be filled or emptied with air.
Its simply best to continously eat healthy and increase your metabolism through aerobic and anaerobic exercise. LIVE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE.
If that isn't enough for you then you might consider a pervasive procedure such as liposuction ( note...this procedure has health repercussions even when peformed successfully)

There are some people that have poor definition no matter how hard they try. Some body builders can't get good looking abs even if they have the strongest abs in the world. To get better definition, they get a plastic surgeon to put a plastic plate under their muscles that gives the definition that you see.
Liposuction is another trick that is used to increase definition.
I'd do crunches and situps (Oprah Winfrey supposedly does 300 in a day) and forget the definition.

I agree with the recommendations to eat a balanced diet and do cardio as well as strength-training (muscle building) exercises for the body overall. Get enough sleep and reduce or eliminate possible sources of chronic stress. Check your hormone levels, especially cortisol, which can cause excess abdominal fat.
This site describes yoga postures that supposedly help reduce fat in that area: http://www.womenfitness.net/yoga_abdomen.htm

You can't spot reduce fat. You should combine weight training, aerobic exercise, and, most importantly, a good diet for best results.
