It varies from state to state, the type of job, your years of education and experience.
I live in central NY state. I've been an RN with my bachelor's degree in nursing for 28 years. I'm the nurse at juvenile detention, and I make $21/hr., which is roughly midrange for nursing jobs in this area. Some employers pay more for jobs requiring more skills or experience, or for working nights and holidays (say, 10% more, or $2/hr more, whatever).
During my career, I've worked with patients on an orthopedic floor of a hospital (bone problems), a med-surg floor (patients recovering from a variety of types of illnesses and surgeries), taken care of persons one-on-one in their homes, from babies to handicapped young adults to the elderly and dying, worked in a teen psych center, and now I have my present position.
Here are just a few of the many resources. You might want to call a local hospital or university which has a nursing school/nursing major, and ask to learn more from someone there.

The previous answer is absolutely correct, it does vary state to state, and whether you are in a city or rural area. It also varies according to where you work: hospital, physician's office, school, prison, industry. I live in Ohio, and I have been a RN for 2 years. I now have my BSN. I make $21.18 per hour. I work evening shift and so I get shift differential which is 13% of mid-range salary for the hospital. Mid-range salary is $23.50. So altogether, with my base rate plus shift differential, I make $24.06 per hour. In a larger city and larger hospital I would make more.
In South Carolina and Tennessee, for example, you make much more.
