Well, I think it's a love hate relationship.
Some people hate them for several reasons. One that I might find valid is that they take some jobs away from Americans. Another is that they simply don't like the illegal status.
But, for some people, they love them because they provide cheap labor and they aren't very demanding (being illegal makes them vulnerable to abuse by a lot of parties).
It's not a black & white issue.

I don't shun Mexicans or anybody. I just shun illegal aliens. And about the New Orleans blog above, I'm in the National Guard and was down there for six months due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I do agree, they have helped significantly, however most of them are illegal. That doesn't just hurt Americans, it hurts them. They get taken advantage of all the time, and have no where to turn for help.
We had to escort about a hundred of them off of the New Orleans Naval Air Station (where we were camped at) because their employer wasn't paying or feeding them. We don't screen them, that was up to the contractor that was working on the post. We had to escort them off of the post and turn them over to authorities. Don't hate me, I hated doing it. I felt bad for them. They did a lot of work, had to leave without any money, food, and very little clothes.
With them being illegal immigrants, there was nothing we could do for them.
The employer got a hefty fine, but that doesn't make up for nearly the damage he has caused. That fine for one didn't offset the pain he caused, and two didn't offset the money he illegally made from their hard work.

They are a drain on our system. In 1995 illegal immigrants cost California 2 billion dollars in health care. That's 2 billion that could have gone to schools, the elderly.... They do take once good paying jobs in construction. Look at just about any construction site, what do you see? Also they are being prayed upon by the developers, contractors... as a source of very cheap labor that they do not have to pay taxes on, health care for... And when they get hurt on the job their illegal immigrant employer leaves them at the hospital to fend for themselves. This is a form of slave labor. Do as I say or I will tell on you.

i agree!!! americans should be proud that we have a country that people are willing to risk their lives and their families lives to live here, illegally. what if we were the ones that had no other choice but to break the law and risk everything just to live. how would it feel to be treated the way we are treating them?
if we as americans are in a position to help the less fortunate, then we should without complaining. we look and see that our country is not what it used to be... yet we still have it sooo much better than basically everyone... this doesn't make sense. i thought the U.S. got a wake up call about 5 years ago on 9/11 but i guess not. we need a serious reality check.

Because groups need a scapegoat to make themselves feel superior. Whether it's the Jews in 1930's Germany, or Blacks in 1970's apartheid South Africa, or the Irish in 1820's New York, those in power, or wanting power, find it easier to point the finger and blame someone else. Just like Bush, Cheney, and all those other idiots in D.C. are doing now.

It's the uproar of illegals. Yes some come here to work and help us but with statistics it's showing most are here illegally. While here illegally they are working, living, shopping and getting all the government aid intended for american citizens such as cash assistance, food stamps and medical coverage. Why should citizens be forced to be jobless and homeless as our government feeds, shelters and gives 100% medical coverage to those who break our laws. Hundreds of americans are denied assistance even though their elligible and become homeless due to overwelming bills and possible job loss to an illegal who agrees to far less pay than those with better qualifications. Lets all go to their country and see how angry they get that we don't speak spanish and take over their jobs causing more poverty and homelessness.

The legal immigrants I have no problem with.
Its the millions of illegals whos only goal in life is to get on US welfare and benefits that I have a problem with.
If they won't even better their own country, how much of a help are they to us here?

Well, now things have come to the point where they're holding open rallies and basically demanding citizenship in the United States. I don't know how you feel about that, but I see it as a negative.

Who is shunning Mexicans??! We should be shunning and extricating any illegal immigrants, Mexican or otherwise who have broken the laws by being illegal, and certainly those who continue to break the law in other ways. Illegal immigration unacceptable, and it is breaking our backs, especially in states such as California, Arizona, and Texas.
