Serious answers please!

Why is it that some people say " I wouldn't be caught dead....." doing something? For instance " I wouldn't be caught dead (here or doing this)".Why don't we say " i wouldn't be caught ALIVE......."? I mean wouldn't it make more sense? Because you wouldn't be there if your dead, MAJORITY of the time, right?

Yeh, i have thought about the same thing before, my friends say that all the time and it gets really annoying, i'm gonna start saying i would'nt be caught alive and see how they react...

Oh and while were on the whole dead or alive kinda tpoic i have a question for you:
Q: What happens when you get scared half to death twice?
(Meaning when someone scares you, most people say "Oh, you scared me half to death)
Well what would happen if that occours twice?

It just means dat they are more self-conscious of themselves and would not want their friends or loved ones to catch them doing something that will disappoint them or make them keep their distance from him/her in any way. for eg., A straight guy working in a gay club! think what would happen if his friends find out huh? so, he says "I wouldn't want to be caught dead working in a place like this."

I think originally is was intended to mean that even if one was dead, it still wouldn't happen.... someone felt THAT strongly against whatever action/event
