My 2 yr old son carries around a bear that he calls his baby. He actually wants a baby doll. Should i go ahead and get him one for his 3rd bday next weekend? Do i have anything to worry about with him wanting a doll?

Awww. He sees you and wants to be just like you. Does it really matter that it is through nurturing and caring for a "baby". It is most likely something that he will grow out of when he sees how most other boys his age act in the early years of school, but for now, enjoy the cute ways that he shows how much he loves you and learns from you. Get him a doll, maybe a boy doll that can do some of the "boy" things that he does with him(like trucks). And hope that the sensitivity and nurturing side of him isn't completely brainwashed out of him in his school years.

Awe... I'm a Preschool Teacher for over 12 years, and I personally see nothing wrong in your son wanting a baby doll. It's a security thing as well as "roll playing" the home life. Like when children play, "house" they are simply role modeling their home life, it's healthy.
Now if your son still wants to carry around a doll as a teenager, then yes I'd be a little worried.LOL

I hope I was of help in your decision, Bridget

No, he's a LITTLE boy - give him what makes him happy!

I presume you are worried that he's going to end up gay because he wants a doll. The truth is that there's no way to know one way or another about a child's sexuality at this age and, in any case, nothing you do will change it anyway so why not please the little fellow.

I never wanted dolls when I was a kid - always wanted train sets and the things generally given to boys but I didn't grow up to be a lesbian! I think most people think of me as very feminine actually, so childhood preferences dont indicate anything.

Lots of little boys want dolls. There is nothing wrong with it all, my son had a doll when he was younger. We got him his when I found out I was pregnant with my next child, we wanted him to learn how to treat babies and a doll is a great way to do that. I think just like it teaches little girls how to be with babies it teaches little boys the same.

you can easily get a boy doll. It is okay for boys to play with dolls, they practice socialization skills and it has absolutely no bearing on sexuality (preference) You have nothing to worry about

i really wouldn't get him a baby doll, maby something else along that line but, more appropriate for a boy. like they used to have a boy doll called MY BUDDY that is just for boys.as far as worrying if there may be a gender issue with him,I wouldn't go that route yet

You can get him a doll, but it sounds like he's pretty attached to his baby now. Just let him tell people that the bear is his baby. He'll grow out of it soon.
They have babies that wear 'boy' colors if that would make it a little easier to adjust to.

he is still a baby and is mimicking you or others around who help care for him a doll wont be bad but watch his actions close, anything out of regular boyish ways you may want to ween him off the doll toy by loosing it often and let him find it once or twice then again not finding it he will begin to like something else sesame street characters are co-ed try them.
