Try using spray gel and blow dry your hair just to the point that it is almost dry but still slightly damp. Then use a curling iron on high and pick up the section of hair that you are about to curl and clamp the iron at the roots of that section and slowly pull the iron away from you head so that it whole length of that section has been heated up by the iron. Do this 2 or 3 times to the same section and the last time stop just at the ends of that section and roll the iron up. Keep the iron on that same section rolled up for a long enough time that the rolled up hair is hot all the way through. Slide the iron out of that section with it still rolled in the curl. Do not unroll that curl, just leave it as is and move on to the next section and repeat the same steps on it. When you have finished all section of hair you wish to curl then brush or comb out into the style. The trick with making a strong lasting curl is to heat the hair very hot and let completely cool. If you brush hair that is still hot you will have changed it ability to cure in a curl.
One word of advice. Next time you go in to the salon have the stylist curl your hair and watch how they do it. There are several little tricks and odds are they will use the very tricks that work best with you hair type. Good luck.

Get a hair body wave....not a tight permanent. They have alot of gels and shampoos that you can buy to help your hair hold the curl. Buy a good mousee and when dry take the curling iron and wow you will have curls.

There are tons of products you can use to help hold curl in your hair. Curl enhancing shampoos, conditioners, gels, hair mousses, sprays ect.. You also may want to consider using rollers or a curling iron to help make the curls.

spray with a little hairspray (not the strong one) and then curl. let the hair cool before finger combing them a little bit and set again with hair spray not too much though because you would want to have nice bouncy curls not stiff ones.
