Everyday I see the same bums standing on street corners, hassling myself and others for $$$. Each day they come up with a new story as to why they need cash. I would like to help those who have sincere needs, but have no interest in those that lie or just waste the generosity of others (often the elderly). Whats a good way to tell these repetitive bums to "hit the road"? Anyone have good techniques?

put a $5 $10 or if you want them to really chase, a $20 dollar bill on the end of a fishing line on a fishing pole. Have your friend carry it over to where they are and then 'accidentally' drop it with you across the street, when they try to pick it up, reel it in, and attempt to draw them out into the street.

If there is a business on the street corner, let them know that there are panhandlers out front and scared some customers away. Business owners call the police and for the most part that's all it takes. Good luck.
Our grocery store down the road experiences this heavily during the holidays, there is always someone who needs a dollar to catch the bus, etc, etc. It's scary because some of them want to walk you to your car and load your groceries onto your truck.
I always call the store when I get home.

I totally feel for you as you can't just keep giving every bum money every time you see them.
Unfortunately I don't think there really is a way. I believe they even get permits to panhandle so they are well within their rights.
As uncomfortable as it is, I'd just ignore them. But if they do get aggressive, confrontational or harass you (as some do when you don't give them anything), I'd call the police to report it.
Also, I have done that think that guy talked about up above about not gving money but offering to buy a sandwitch or soemthing instead. Maybe if you did that once they might remember and leave you alone...or hassle you more often, I don't know.

If you want to tell anyone to hit the road you say

"HEY ASSHOLE, GO HOME AND GET YOUR ******* SHINE BOX"

But what i like to do sometimes is straight up ask the bum, "Bum, what the **** do you want from Carl's Jr?" Then ill go eat and bring him back a number 2 or what ever he requested.
That way i have helped someone to eat rather than to give them money for alcohol that they are not even planning on sharing.

I don't know where you live but panhandling is legal in many states. People have the right to be bums! True. If they are on your property you can have them removed by the authority but on sidewalks and public areas they can be bums!

Most of the time I just tell them that I don't have any spare change that way you aren't being rude by not acknowledging them (they are human being and like us they want the courtesy that we all want and need as human beings) and you don't have to give them any money.

its pretty simple really... look them in the eye, smile and as they approach you get a really nauseated look on your face then beg them for some dough! p.s. remember to throw a fit when they tell you no. works like a charm 4 me everytime
