the symptoms begin with vomiting, and then loss of apetite, then diarrhea, and when full blown, bloody diarrhea and dehydration..
Several other viruses have the same symptoms, so a smear of stool, tested at the vet's is the only way to tell which one it is..

Vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, & not eating are the main symptoms.

Take your dog to the vet immediately. This can be a life threatening disease. Puppies, especially, can die very quickly from dehydration caused by the diarrhea & vomiting.

Your vet will do a test that can tell if it is parvo or just a bout of gastoenteritis.

If you have an adult dog that has been previously vaccinated for Parvo, it is probably not that. Your dog might have a different medical problem that should be diagnosed by a qualified veterinarian.

Mucous-y diarrhea, vomitting, blood perhaps in stool. Parvo has a particular 'smell' that is extremely distinctive - an experience can tell just with his/her nose (as can many of us breeder who were around when it first cropped up!). If you think your dog has Parvo, call your vet immediately - I mean now, not an hour from now. Time is of the essence - minutes can cost the life of your dog. Be sure to telephone them that you are coming and what you suspect so that you don't waltz into the reception are with a possible infectious animal - they may want you to come to the back door or should have a special quarantine area while they check it out. This is a horrible disease, but is now survivable if you hurry and act!

Symptoms of parvo are vomiting and very runny diarrhea sometimes with blood in it. There is a test that the vet can perform to rule it in or out. Coccidia sometime presents the same symptoms so your best bet is get your dog to the vet asap.

He begins to loose weight rapidly because he won't eat. And unless he is a large dog, he probably won't survive. If he gets it or has it, it's too late for the shot. I've had three at different times, and was able to nurse one back to health. The two littlest one's, by the time you realize what they have it is too late, they've lost too much weight. If you have a dog with parvo, make sure you innoculate any other dog you may have in the future, because the virus will be in the ground and will infect any other dogs you may get.

a lot of times, a simple blood work or fecal sample will tell you. Parvo is avoided by the vaccine, but i'm pretty sure there is medicine to treat it. nasty disease. but the puppy's temp would be lower than normal(101 is normal), they wouldn't be eating or very playful...
