God made man in his image but it doesnt necessarily mean physical images. If you really think about it, he did the whole Tower of Babel thing so not all men look the same. I think what he meant was he made man in the image of holiness and being good. That's what God is. He is holy and righteous. But because Satan changed that about man it's hard to tell. You should read the Bible more if you want to know. As with the statues and images of Jesus. Well know one knows what he looks like wxcept those that lived with him in his time. People misconstrude images so things change over time.

Because "statues" are man made! God created man, and no image of God or Jesus has been given beyond they were MEN.

Statues are merely "figures" of represention at any rate. Thus any type of Jesus statue does dipict the figure of a man.

The old jews (who invented God ) considered God to be so powerful he could not be seen by mortal man nor could his name be spoken.
The old roman rulers (inventers of christianity) improved on that so Jesus could be the poster child for christianity.
In thetime of jesus there were huge cedar forrest in lebanon, and probley the surrounding areas, so most of the people of the area would not have been a dark skin(indeed most Jews are not dark skin now days,). It's likely jesus was light skin (white in features as jews were and still are with most having blue eyes).
Really jesus does look like us

When the Bible says that "God made man in his own image," it means that we think, feel, and have free will.

Even if it were true that we would physically resemble Him, statues of Jesus, sculpted by the hands of men, would hardly be the standard to judge by.

because the statues of Jesus are usually based on the european concept of Jesus and not the regionality of his actual proposed features. 2nd No one has ever seen God so we don't know what he looks like. i suppose that if we treated all human beings as creatures created in God's image then we'd realize how alike we all are and discover things that bring us closer to being in his image...

Silly and blind is what you are. We're made in God's image inside. The inner being the soul, spirit, mind, character, personality. Yes we each have our own uniquenesses but we're all created in IN hence the term IN the image of God. We're not exact statue like replica's of Christ more like offspring sort of. Get it?

Nobody got the clue how Jesus look like. Country in Europe/US Jesus will have blonde hair and blue eyes. Other part of the world he will be brown /black hair with same colour eye. We are like Jesus with all the common features of a human.

oh now cmon. youre being to literal. "in his image" did not really mean physically. god made man IN HIS IMAGE meaning he set us apart from animals and obects. when they say that he made us IN HIS LIKENESS, it is a likeness mentally, morally, and socially. whenever anyone feels guilty, decides on something, appreciates anything, he is in likeness of god.
Jesus is the ideal image of god because he is in every sense a thinking, moral, laughing, crying human being. Just like the rest of us.

Becuase the statues of Jesus are an artists perfect rendition of what they THINK he looked like. It's just an ideal version since there weren't any digital cameras back then.
