Do you have anxiety, depression, or fears? Has your sleeping pattern changed recently, have you been sleeping in a different bed, without your spouse? Do you fret over the fact you can't sleep? All of these factors could add up to your failure to sleep. If you can't diagnose one of these ailments you can always see your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe medication or at least give you some advice.

Do you go to bed? Lay down, cover up and close your eyes? Lots of times people keep busy waiting to be tired and the "sleep mechanism" doesn't "kick on". Try that.
See a doctor. Sometimes there is a medical reason. Don't take prescription sleep aids, they are more trouble than they are worth. OTC ones sometimes cause sleepness, at least for me.
Turn your clock so that you can't see the time passing. You can freak yourself out watching the time pass.
Is there something bothering you? Dealing with your issues is important in getting a good nights sleep.
Get yourself on a schedule. No sleeping during the day. Do what ever you have to to stay awake until bedtime, even if it's early.

Edit:
Have you tried tea? Sleepytime really works. So does Valarian root. Get them from an holistic store to be sure of purity and freshness.

I go to bed around 11pm every night because of work and all that stuff.

What works for me is:
I stop drinking sodas around 4pm
At like 7:30 I take a shower and put on Pajamas
Around 9:30 I go to my bedroom and work in there or watch TV
10 I usually turn off the TV and read for about an hour
at like 11 I turn off all the lights except for the one by my bed and get ready for bed with just that one light on
Then when I'm done I usually get to sleep within 20 min

Hope you finally get some sleep even if my information didn't help

if you are going through any heightened level of stress that could cause it. Try turning the lights off sooner so your eyes can adjust when you want to go to sleep. A glass of warm milk can sometimes help. Try turning the air down and go to sleep with it very cold. Sometimes the feeling of a lot of blankets on you can help. If nothing helps and you cannot sleep in the next couple of days I would try tylenol pm or something of the such. If that doesn't work after a couple of days consult a physician and ask about ambien or like sonata (spelling?). I had the sonata when I was younger and it helped a lot, it was a 10 day pill that gets you back in a sleeping habit. good luck and good night hopefully.

1. You're not exerting enough energy during the day.
2. Partaking in caffeine after a certain time of day will help keep your eyelids open.
3. Strenuous exercise at night can interfere.
I find that taking quiet walks helps me out sometimes.
4. Avoid daytime naps.
5. Eating heavy foods can also impede sleep.
6. Watching an exciting show on T.V. won't help. Try watching something extremely boring that'll make you doze off.
7. Avoid exciting or scary storylines in both late night movies and books. Thinking over them won't help. It will only keep your mind awake from all the mental stimulation.
8. Try a quiet activity, such as meditation.
9. Prepare for bed at least an hour before you actually go to bed. Maybe by doing this it will help to put your brain into that mindframe.
10. Thinking over and worrying about the day's events can't be helping you, either.
11. Sometimes a warm soothing bath and/or a warm glass of milk can help.
12. Get into a bedtime routine and stick to it; that might help.
13. Slipping into clean, and not sweaty, sticky bedsheets helps.
14. Keeping the room at the right temperature.
15. Cracking a window for the fresh air.
16. Using an old radio with the dial turned all the way to the end with the correct frequency can create white noise which should help lull you off to la-la land.
17. Run a fan.
18. Keeping a radio on low, quiet music.
19. I've heard that keeping your room for only sex and sleep helps. That removing any outside stimuli and distractions might aid you in falling asleep faster.
20. Clear your room of clutter; good air flow is important.
21. If you don't fall asleep within 20-30 minutes, GET OUT OF BED! Your body obviously isn't ready to slow down. Do something relaxing and try again to go back to bed within 30 minutes.
22. Find a good time to go to bed and stick to it! Don't create different bedtimes for every night as it'll only confuse your system and keep you on edge.
23. Avoid sweets and chocolate before bed.
24. If you have a partner, sometimes experiencing intimacy can sooth things for you.

By the way, when you have children you will WANT to sleep; trust me...

Also, you're worrying about it too much. That alone can affect your quality of getting sleep.

Sometimes your body can take of itself. Some nights I sleep soundly all the night through and others I wake up rather early; refreshed and not needing more rest. It may be that you don't need as much as you think you do.

If you're concerned that you might get into an auto accident or accidentally hurt yourself or others from lack of sleep, you should consult with your doctor. They might be able to come up with something that can help you.

Good luck, good night and sweet dreams...

they always say a warm glass of milk helps...but are you stressed? I myself can't stop thinking of everything that I need to do the next day or worrying about bills..lol..
Somewhere maybe you have gotten your days and nights mixed up...
try to go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time, or at least sleep in maybe an hour or so on the weekends..i get up at 530 during the week and try not to sleep past 7-730 myself

You definitely need to see your doctor. You might have an actual sleep disorder that needs treatment.

What's with the foot washing and the cages on the side of the bed?? I have never heard of those as sleeping aids.

This happens to me when I haven't done what I needed to do during the day. Perhaps keeping a journal and writing down everything you're thinking about and taking action on the list the next day.

Also, try Valerian Root to help you sleep.

Hmm! Wonderin' if you're under any type of stress?
If you have a access to a swimming pool..try that before you go to sleep, that can where a person out. I used to sleep so good when I used to swim a lot! If this persist though see a doctor!
