My daughter will be 1 in 2 weeks and i still breastfeed her. I got my period back when she was about 9 1/2 months old. When you start to add in solid foods and breastfeed less, that is when you are most likely to get your period back because of the lack of breastfeeding hormones. It kind of triggers things to get going again. However, some people will get it sooner or later. It really all depends on the person. I take the Micronor birth control - the progestrin only pill and let me tell you, since my period has come back it is extremely irregular.
One more thing, it is a myth that you can't get pregnant while breastfeeding. Although breastfeeding will offer some protection - there are stipulations. You need to exclusively breasfeed - no bottles or formula. You also need to nurse at least 8 times a day and empty at least one breast at each feeding. I would say not to rely on breastfeeding as your only form of birth control. It is possible to start ovualting before the prescence of a period. Ovulation is all that is necessary to get pregnant again - not a period!!

It depends. Some breastfeeding women get their periods back as soon as non-breastfeeding moms. Others go many, many months without periods. For the majority of women, exclusive breastfeeding (baby is fed on demand, day and night, and is NOT offered bottles, pacifiers, etc, to satisfy sucking needs) does result in several months without periods. Less than exclusive breastfeeding starts to increase the chances that your period will return.

It's different with each person. I did but I had a friend that was period free for a year and 1/2 while breastfeeding.

I breastfed my son until he was 13 months, i got my first period when he was 9 months old and another when he was a year. This was when he was really getting into eating solid foods and juice, so not nursing as much. As soon as he was weaned they were back to pre-pregnancy periods.

Hope and pray... hope and pray you will not. I got mine back right away, but my son has still had the same eating habits that he always had(eats like an ADULT most times), so i don't think it was because of less milk production. So you can get it while nursing. And also, like so many people before me have mentioned, I got pregnant before i stopped nursing as well.

Some people do and some it really becomes irregular. But, the most important thing is YES you can still get pregnant. Don't let the old wives tale say you can't. You can and it happens.

oh my goodness...what if people are really taking these 'answers' seriously?!
Of course you can still get pregnant while breastfeeding!
Some people stop their periods for months or even a year (I did as I recall) while breastfeeding, especially if you're doing it frequently, some people barely have a reprieve at all.

I did not have a period until after I stopped. But this does not mean you can't get pregnant, because you can!
