I'm thinking they mean bring that with you to services to wear under your robe. We have an outfit. It's not a robe, exactly. It's more like a white karate uniform - long white pants and shirt. They are adjustable for size and tie in the front. They're pretty opaque so it's not like the water makes anything you're wearing underneath show through.
I guess if you have a change of clothes, you can wear anything you like, as long as it's modest. My concern with a long skirt is that it would float and no longer be modest at all! You'd have to go in with those little weights (like fishermen use to keep their lines down) tied to the hem of your skirt! ;o)
We believe in baptizing immediately after someone makes that decision. So we have a room in the back right off the baptistery for the preacher and one on the other side for the person seeking to be baptized. They each go in and get changed (usually with help, if they're okay with that). The preacher generally puts on a wading outfit over his clothes. There are stairs leading into the baptistery from either side. The preacher and congregant meet in the baptistery and the water level is about 3 or 4 feet.
When I was baptized, the preacher told me beforehand that on a count of three, he would hold a handkerchief over my nose and mouth (I guess to remind me not to breathe?) and he'd lean me back into the water completely and immediately back out.
It's painless. I know a lot of people are afraid and I really don't know if it's because of the water, the unknown, or the gravity of making a formal commitment to God.
Once it's over, each walks back up the stairs and into their respective changing rooms. And they have help (if they want it) getting changed back into their clothes.
I think the preacher needs help getting into the waders. I guess the person being baptized gets help more for moral support than actually needing help changing.

I wore a dress to church, you go in the back to change into your baptism robe (some churches dont, wear shorts or leggings under your skirt and bring a change of clothing- A skirt is not a problem, just make sure that you wear something appropriate underneath in case the skirt billows up. No one will see it except for oyu and the baptizer- you generally cannot see inside the baptismal from the congregation. And if oyu choose to wear pants or shorts, remember you will change clothing so you dont have to be in the congregation like that. Just find out at what part of the service the baptism will take place- it is generally at the beginning or the very end, and then plan it from there

1. God cares about your heart, not your physical appearance. It is the heart of the worshipper that matters!
2. Full immersion baptisms, whether in a pool, baptismal, or pond, are usually done with robes the church provides. Provided you are going to a church that wealthy and ticklish about "proper dress codes", that is.
3. NOBODY said you had to do a double jackknife with a half twist off the high dive! If you wear long skirts all the time, so be it. Wear a skirt that won't get damaged in the water, and bring something to change into. It is about your spiritual death and rebirth, remember?
4. What do you think the people in Jesus' time wore to get baptized in? Just regular clothing.........

Look, what church are you getting baptized in??? They should have water suits for that!!!! I am a fundamental Baptist and believe that you should be given a suit. If not, WEAR A LONG SKIRT, all that will happen is it will get WET!! So what!
Immersion baptism is the ONLY Scriptural baptism out there. The word BAPTISM literally means IMMERSED, check ANY Greek dictionary "BAPTIZO"
Anyway, make sure you are getting Baptized by a Bible believing church! And make sure you are SAVED! Any more questions, email me.

Our church gives you an undergrament and gown to where, they should have everything a person needs if they truly believe in baptism. Some churches though take a weak stance on baptism and if u say you want to done right away theyll look at you like youre from mars and tell you to come back a speicifc time theyre doing them. Just to be sure, if you or somebody you know wants to do it, bring a bathing suit packed in a backpack or something.

My church provided a robe that was relatively thick to change into before being baptised, so I'm sure if you felt the need to wear a bathing suit under it it would be perfectly ok. You can be baptised fully clothed and just bring an extra set of clothes to change into afterwards.

I'm sorry. You wear whatever you normally wear to church, and take someting to change into (and a towell to dry off with) - it doesn't have to be a bathingsuit (thats just what they recomended at my church). Most churches have very private rooms you can change in that are also very close to the baptismal tank.
You could also wear pants under the robe. Really it's whatever you want.

Perhaps, there is a room where you could change into something appropriate (and of course, modest, especially considering the occasion)
Do you really feel that long skirts would be appropriate for a full immersion baptism?

i saw people 'dancing in the spirit' and their blouses where bouncing up and down and you could see their womanly chest... Then I hear others critizing their worship and saying that was not in the spirit... No matter what some people will have something to say, especially in church... I would wear a black bathing suit with black shorts and a black t-shirt

Wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet that is thick enough to conceal detail you don't want seen and bring a towel along with a change of clothes.
Long skirts... wear pants, pantaloons pedal pushers or something of the sort under the skirt... and see above.
