Smoking is addictive, and like any drug that's habit forming, the more you do it, the more you want to do it. Lots of folks associate cigarettes with certain actions they do, such as after eating, talking on the phone, after sex, having a beer in a bar, being with friends who smoke, etc. It's a conditioned reflex. The best way to break the habit is to substitute a different and more healthful habit. Try taking five deep breaths every time you get the urge to smoke. Filling your lungs with oxygen is better than filling them with formaldehyde and arsenic -- two substances in tobacco smoke. Maybe then the cravings after eating will subside.

I think it just seems to be so powerful because it has become part of a routine for you. Try doing something alternative to smoking after eating, like taking a walk or taking a shower.

Cravings for cigarettes seems to be stronger when you are in the routine of smoking them at certain times.

The reason that people smoke after meals is because they want too relax after a full meal, and the people are usually stuffed, full with food and they cant eat any more food, to calm and relax, just smoke.

To stop doing that, give yourself a treat, like a mint after a meal, dont smoke. The mint will refresh your lungs.

I don't agree that cravings for a cigarette after a meal is routine triggered. I think it may be the pleasure sensors that are stimulated and a cigarette finishes the process. Who knows...
