Behind the pulpit, where the pastor preaches, is the baptismal. It is like a big tub of water. You will be given a robe to wear. You will be baptised in front of the congregation. The other way it could happen is to be taken to a local lake and be baptized in it, while the congregation watched.

In my church we hold full immersion baptisms every 6 or so weeks usually on wednesdays (sometimes on Sundays) They usually bring a pair of shorts and a t shirt (the women usually wear a bathing suit under the shirt also to prevent "see through" problems) My pastor also wears shorts and a tshirt too so nobody feels "weird" The entire congregation is there to CELEBRATE is really a great time for us all.

Baptism is part of the service. There is time set aside in each of the services for baptism for any who would be baptized. A person may wear clothes in the baptismal waters, however, the church provides robes so that the person being baptized may preserve their modesty.

Actually, for the group that got baptised the day that I did, we all wore shorts and t-shirts that wouldn't be see-through when they got wet, LOL, and we actually used a new, galvanized metal stock tank for the baptismal water. It was plenty big enough, and since we didn't have access to a swimming pool and it was the middl eof winter, it was the best thing we could find! I thought it worked great. It had plent of room in it for three people, me and the two elders that were in it with me and all went beautifully. There was a step on either side of the edge of it to make it much easier to climb in and out of it. It was done in full view of all who wanted to attend and this is totally appropriate because, after all , what is a baptism? It is a public declaration of one's dedication to God. It is also in token of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

In the LDS church, (mormon church), it is not done during sunday service...there is a seperate meeting set up. Family and friends are invited, but anyone can attend. The person who is authorized to perform the baptism and the person getting baptized enters the water (about waist deep), both in modest white clothing...in similitude of purity and spiritual cleanliness.

No problem Usually you bring a spare set of clothes and change afterwards.. Yes it is done in front of everyone, as the purpose is for you to show the whole world that you have decided to follow Christ. The person being baptised usually invites all of their friends and family so they can witness their comittment.
It is usually done during a Sunday service, we baptise most of the people in the ocean as we live close and in an area that the water is warm most of the year..

That's not a stupid question. yes in your cloths, and a proper baptism is being submerged under water in front of the congregation as a public statement.
I suggest you get your Bible and look up baptism in the concordance.

In most churches, they have groups of people that all go together at once, and when it is there turn to be blessed they wear there robe into the water and disrobe in the water right before the ceremony, as if you were coming into the new world they way you were born. My brother married a very religious born again and we witnessed his ceremony. Have pixs if interested but would not suggest it.

Hi!
When I was baptized, I wore shorts and a tank top under a white cotton ankle length robe thing. Then I was dunked. It did happen in front of the whole church, but it is not embarressing or anything... it is no different than swimming at a public pool...
:)
Hope this helps... T.
