We confuse people.

Some Catholics like lima beans. Some do not. This doesn't confuse people. Some Mormons are Republicans, some are Democrats. This doesn't confuse people.

Some Unitarian Universalists believe in God and some do not. This REALLY confuses people, because we are a church. We manage to meet in the same building once a week to discuss morality, religion and spirituality.

We believe in many things, but we are not unanimous about our beliefs.

We tend to be witty, literate, intelligent and poor singers.

has more - in particular, the FAQ page, the "Beliefs" page and the guest sermon on "What being a UU means to me".

Sooner or later someone will call us a cult. Cults are new, with a single charismatic leader and a single mind-set; look at the Moonies for an example. We've been around for 200 years (Presidents John Adams and his son, John Quincy, were Unitarians), we don't have a single charismatic leader and we don't have a single mind-set.

Unitarians have a wide range of beliefs and discuss them passionately without putting each other down, Some Unitarian churches are more Christian or Jewish than others, while some are mainly agnostic. In most you are encouraged to think for yourself and come to your own conclusions. It is very liberating!

They are very accepting of many different paths to spirituality. They tend to be non-judgmental, as well. They generally do not believe in the trinity. I was raised as a Unitarian, but I am now an atheist.

The Unitarian church is non-creedal - basically you can believe in pretty much anything you want. You can be an atheist, agnostic, polytheist, theist, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, neo-pagan, humanist, or any combination of these. They pride themselves on being a place for seekers and being very tolerant. They are especially supportive of gay rights - they will perform gay marriages.

Unfortunately Unitarians aren't as tolerant and non-dogmatic as they would like to think. A person who is politically conservative, or who is pro-life, or who believes in traditional sexual morality, or who believes in the bible is not going to be welcome in that church. They aren't tolerant of all points of view and they do have dogma - they're basically the Democrat party with a steeple.

They are the fence sitters of religion. They stand on absolutely nothing and allow practically everything.

Find a good bible teaching church; wouldn't you rather know the truth of God's word, than a comfortable, politically correct lie?

They believe there are many ways to God and according to scripture this is not true.
