My husband says it is. I've never heard of any such thing.

I used to drive barefoot, bare almost everything else, and I never got a ticket! Probably depends on the laws where ya at!

Wow, I have NEVER heard of that before! I have driven without shoes before when the shoes I was wearing had caused severe pain in my legs and I had no problem driving this way. As for anoldmick's comment on it being illegal to drive while wearing FLIP FLOPS....that cannot be true! I wear filp flops all the time and so do a lot of other people who drive! And who on earth is going to see your feet while you are driving anyway???

People tell me it is. I looked into it years ago and they said these laws first came in when they had old flivvers (like Model-T's) and the pedals were so hot at times, they couldn't stand to push them with bare feet, and would wreck.

My son-in-law said it's because with stocking feet if you need to slam on the brakes, your stockings would slip off the pedal.

I drive a lot on the highway, up to 800 miles in a day, and when my feet feel bad I slip off my shoes, but put them on when I come to a town or toll booth. I have never had a problem with my feet slipping off, but don't have a lot of emergencies. I had one wreck since 1967, and I was stopped correctly when that happened.

I really think the police have better things to do with their time.

Usually not. Some states may have an exception, but most do not require the wearing of shoes. I personally don't care to drive unless I have shoes on - but my wife often drives without shoes. I guess to each his own.

I've driven without shoes on. You have two problems with this.If you got into a wreck and had to get out quickly, there could be glass in the road. Also I feel as though I have less control over the vehicle when barefooted.

Yes, in most states, it is. You cannot be sure of being in complete control of the vehicle driving barefooted. And in an accident, your feet can be much more severely damaged if not in shoes (it's also illegal most everywhere to drive while wearing flipflops).

No, and it doesn't say anything about needing a brain either, but it's a good idea to have one, just like wearing shoes while driving.

I've heard that. Of course, just as long as you don't break any laws, the police will never know that you don't have shoes on.
