Your question read with details could have two main options. To serve Railways, you can either join Indian Railways itself and seek specific posting in R & D for locomotives or overall improvement. Alternatively, you can join private partners of Railways, specifically connected with its performance and upgradation. Both the options have their own merits and limitations. How far you get opportunities to get to your desired work area and what resources stand at your disposal to carry on development work.

Still, having a specific objective in your mind, you should give it a try at either options and hope for the best.

You must have heard of the IRSC - Indian Railway Service Commission. You should qualify for this competitive test and enter the 'operations' division. Sky is the limit for growth in this route.

Alternatively you can try your luck in securing a job in the design or manufacturing institutions of the Indian Railways. Chittaranjan Locoworks, Varanasi Diesel Engine Works, Egmore/Kapurtala/Palghat body building works, Central Railway Design and Research Institute in Nagpur are some of these institutions. Get on to the website of Indian Railways and you can get full details.
