Are the embryos really human beings. And if so there are many that are not being used.. can't scientists use these that re going to be thrown away either way?

I don't know about you, but I certainly don't consider a lump of pre-conscious cells to be a human. The arguments against such research are not rational. They are based in the religious assumption that ensoulment happens at conception.

I think that embryos are human beings, and as I understand it, they will be discarded. But, as a Christian I still struggle with how ethical this issue of use for stem cell research is. I feel that rather than let them be discarded they should be used, but then I feel also that if we use them for research then we are playing a part in their destruction. I want it both ways, others to have a chance at life and for the embryos not to die. I feel the problem was when science found a way to create life, and then with this power comes responsibility as to how to use it. This is why creation should only be in Gods hands, we are incapable of handling it, after all we are only human, no matter how intelligent we are.

stem cell research isn't just unborn embryos. you can get stem cells out of umbilical cords and other resources. as for the embryos every time a female is on her minstrel cycle there is one egg that is thrown away so what if someone uses that embryo it might be thrown away anyway.

it is not unetchical. especially now that you can get the cells from umbilical cords, baby teeth that fall out, and even embryos without killing the embryos. Stem cell research can save lives. The research for ALS is getting closer to finding a cure, with the help of stem cell research. If they find a cure for that- they can help cure parkinson's disease and other neuromuscular diseases. It helps save lives.

It is a very tough question, mainly because of the doors that are opened when we boldly experiment near the borders of human life.

My knowledge is limited, but I do not think the emryos constitute human beings. They are very early in development, do not resemble human beings in any way and definitely do not think, or feel pain. I do not believe the potential to develop into a human being defines you as one.

I too cannot understand why one would want to kill ones life to save another. And yes it is a human you would see if you would just let it grow. You came for an embryo! Da

If you had a genetic disorder or disease, you would not be asking that question.
