I'm curious why it matters. Seashells are easy to come by and pretty inexpensive. I can't imagine they'd be fake. You don't describe what types you have. I'm giving you some sites where you can identify shells. Compare your Mom's shells and see what you have. I'm guessing if they look pretty much the same, you have authentic shells.

fake seashells?
I guess its possible, but why would anyone fake a seashell, its got to be cheaper to just get real ones.
I just looked it up and I found several sites selling artificial sea shells.

The main component of sea shells is calcite, the same things that egg shells are made of. If you want to, you could throw one of the shells in some vinegar and see if it begins to dissolve overnight.
A fake shell might also dissolve, but not if it's made of some hard plastic that just LOOKS like shell.
I don't know. An idea.

I really don't think that seashells have any genealogical records to verify authenticity. Sorry

Difficult one, cause the fake ones look better than the real ones.
Like people.
If they were people you could ask them if they were real.

Genealogy is the study of family roots. Your question is in the wrong category.
