I wear a heart monitor while using my exercise bike. I average about 17 calories a minute at a heart rate of 130. I'm a pretty big guy (6'5", 275 lbs) so for a woman of smaller stature, I would imagine it would be substantially less. My guess would be 13-15 calories a minute. This is entirely dependent on keeping your heart rate at an elevated level which is a bit harder to do with a regular bicycle because of traffic, stop signs, coasting etc.

It depends how long and how hard you ride and also on your own body (sex, age, weight and conditioning). As a reference, if you are riding average to hard, you can expect to burn around 150 Kcal every 10 minutes.

The best thing to do is get a heart rate monitor with calorie counter.
