you need to have a complete hormone workup as well as blood count and thyroid panel to rule out internal causes.Diet alone is not enough u need to take supplements.
1.) Seaweeds, help stimulate the thyroid and give minerals for the proper health of the hair
2.) Spinach is great for the hair, contains lots of minerals,as are all the green vegetables.
3.) Protein your hair is made of protein so make sure you are getting it in either animal or vegetable form such as fish,chicken,beef,legumes,nuts... and cheese.Or protein drinks.
4.) take a good b-vitamin supplement with biotin which increases hair growth.
5.)MSM contains naturally occuring sulfer and will make your hair and nails grow faster.
6.) silica
this combined with a good scalp massage with herbal hair oil will do wonders for your hair. Avoid brushing ur hair when its wet,and use a natural shampoo such as lamas chinese stimulating shampoo or Jason thin to thick.

There are stuff out there that FDA don't even approve because they don't have manpower to investigate each one of them, they've not proven, they're billion dollar industry, until someone complains they're very very sick. If you want your hair to grow faster, you are what you eat. Start eating healthy foods, check out pyramid food groups.gov. It takes a lot of patience. There's no fast cure. Many of those pills are just sugar and/or pills that can cause you to start gaining weight. If your hair isn't growing normally, there are reasons why. Supplements, hair dyes, perming, straightening, medications, and too much of everything. Add to that the 7,000 + toxics found in your home, plus pollution found outdoors. The majority of hair problems here, are from women under 30, with damaged hair, hair stopped growing, hair not growing fast enough, hair falling, etc.... trying to be a follower of trend. And those are the same women giving advice here. Go figure!

Work.
The harder you work (move around, lifting things, building a brick wall, sports, etc. etc.), the harder it grows. If you'd be sick and stayed in bed for weeks, you'll see it hardly grows.
Wikipedia:
The rate of growth is approximately 1.25 centimeters, or about 0.5 inches, per month. Anthropologists speculate that the functional significance of long head hair may be adornment, a byproduct of secondary natural selection once other somatic hair had been lost. Another possibility is that long head hair is a result of Fisherian runaway sexual selection, where long lustrous hair is a visible marker for a healthy individual (with good nutrition, waist length hair—approximately 1 meter or 39 inches long—would take around 80 months, or just under 7 years, to grow). This would explain why long head hair (in both sexes) is viewed as attractive even now.

Keeping it clean, eating a balanced diet (cut back on sugar, fats and greasy foods), and trim it when it needs it, i.e., when you start to see frizzy ends.
Sometimes it takes others longer to grow hair and other times it just might be that you may not be meant to have long hair.
I know my hair breaks off at the ends once it gets past my shoulders and none of the females in my immediate family has had (or can maintain) very long hair.

I don't know if anything will REALLY make your hair grow faster, but maintaining a healthy diet & making sure you get vitamins A&D help with hair, skin & nail growth. Cod liver oil did wonders for my hair, made it really shiny, a natural shine. If you want your hair to LOOK longer, consider getting hair extensions. Lots of celebrities use 'em. (P.S. Don't overdue the vitamin thing. You could hurt your health if you do.).

Drink spirulina. It helped mine look more healthly and it seemed to grow faster. Unfortunately I don't think anything makes you hair grow faster...
If you need long hair quick, try hair extensions!

I know if you keep your ends trimed helps, over the counter prenatal vitamins worked for me and my hair takes for ever to grow. Try your local vitamin store and ask what the best is for that. I am not saying some off the wall bottle of magic hair potion. just a actual vitamin, that helps growth of hair and nails.
