It is truly amazing how children can be so much like their parents. It is almost scary. I have two children and one is relaxed and can take anything and the other is very sensitive. I am not overly dramatizing the over sensitivity with my son, because his teachers of every grade have all noticed this. He is still young yet, so I have time to work with him, but my question is what do I do to help him with something like this? He crys till he gets a headache if his brother makes noises with his mouth and won't stop(little brother is only 2 and can't help himself), He gets upset if his clothes get messy. I could name more but I think you get the idea. I can understand getting frustrated by the things that happens, but the whole drama that he preforms with each thing is rediculous. Please give me some advice.

Well it sounds like you are aware of the situation and am trying your best to make things better your son. This could be something that he will grow out of or maybe something that will get worse with time. He could be a perfectionist or he may have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You may want to talk with him and ask him how it makes him feel to hear loud noises or when his clothes are messy. He may be experiencing anxiety from these things. Anxiety can make people very angry, agitated, or even super emotional. You may want to get him some counseling from a child psychologist or child therapist. I know that it is hard to make these kind of decisions. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and I am now 31 years old but I remember being very emotional and anxious from as young as I can remember. God Bless.

I'd mention all these symptoms to your pediatrician. There are some children who are hypersensitive due to allergies , or ADHD for example.
Perhaps a good physical check up looking for allergies might be in order too.

Then again it could be obsessive compulsive disorder. The fact that the little guy's teachers have noticed it makes me wonder if it isn't some kind of a learning disability.

Has your school done any specialized testing with him with the special education department?

It could be a myriad of things, but it's probably best to rule out the physical first.

Some kids are just more highly strung than other kids, that's their temperment. They may alway be this way and yes I can imagine it's very hard on you, but even more hard on him. He's probably not a really happy camper at the moment and can't verbalize to you what exactly is wrong, so of course he's frustrating and frustrated.

Good luck.

You should discuss this with his pediatrician. He may be able to give you some advice as to how to handle this.

Some children are more high strung and difficult than others. I don't think my daughter is as sensitive but she can be a real PITA about certain things. I've just started sending her to her room so she can dramatize in style and out of my hearing range.

OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Make an appointment IMMEDIATELY for a psychiatric evaluation. YOUR local Mental Health Clinic is a great place to start!

Honestly, it sounds like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It might just be a phase and he will grow out of it.
I would contact your doctor. I have a friend whose child is like this, and she recently found out that he is slightly Autistic.

Good Luck!

Check with focus on the family and see if Dr dobson hasn't written a book on it. He has written several books on child behavior.I recall one as THE STRONG WILLED CHILD.
