What's the best way to go to Shea Stadium via mass transit from Orange County? I was thinking of taking either the NJ Transit bus or the Shortline bus to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and then hopping on the 7 train but I've heard that its not exactly the safest area to be in at night and I'd have to go through there at night. However it seems that the most direct way to go to Shea from where i am other than driving is to go through Port Authority....Is this the best route to take or should I go a different way?

shea stadium is out in the middle of nowhere. nobody hangs out there, should be safe at 3am. 7 train is heavily used at all hours.

the area around the port authority bus terminal can be a mixed bag. inside the buidling is safe. the PAPD monitors all their cameras 24/7 and if anyting is amiss, they are on the scene within seconds. outside the terminal, it's just 1 block walk along 42nd st to the 7 train. just stay on 42nd itself with all the lights and all the people, and you won't have a problem.

You have the best route from Port Authority to Shea. And it's the most economical and efficient way. I've done it, and it's safe because you will be among many Mets' fans travelling the same route. Say hello to the anti-terrorist soldiers posted at Port Authority 24/7.
It'll be fantastic if my Yankees and your Mets play against each other in the World Series! Go New York City!!

The best way is taking NJ Transit to the Penn Station, take the A,C,E or the 1,2,3 to 42nd Street, transfer there to the 7 train and ride it to Shea Stadium. Its actually a safe ride, of course no place is perfect, but you can feel safe on the subway. But your willing to pay more, you can take NJ Transit to Penn Station and take the Long Island Railroad to Shea Stadium. But I recommend the 7 train.

Night is OK unless you mean like 3:00 AM or somethimg. I hope you won't be alone, it's better to go with a friend in case you get lost.
Leave the i-pod at home. You can call NYC Transit and maybe there is another route,Grand Central Station perhaps? The # is 212-330-1234. If that doesn't answer your question then try 212-330-3322 (Customer Assistance)
