People are incredibly adept at deceiving themselves into thinking they are happy or that something will make them happy when the reality is the opposite. Things always really suck especially when it looks like everything's awesome.

it's the overconfidence and security of that "best" that people perhaps forget to maintain exerting effort so the "best" declines into "worst".
