Naturally curly hair.. I'm gonna get a perm to tighten up my curls since a few years back I relaxed my hair (which I wouldn't reccomend to anybody.. seeing as my hair was never the same, my curls never came back the same).. I was wondering *how often I should wash my hair* and what products are good for it.. to maintain the perm and keep it healthy for as long as possible. I know to wait a few days after I actually get the perm before I wash it.. Are there any good shampoos/conditioners that you know of? All I have right now is some pink lotion but it never did much for me unless I hot combed my hair. Thanks, any advice is appreciated!

I permed my hair a year ago... my hair is naturally wavy so it never went straight or curly. I permed it to tigthen my curls.. and it kind of afroed out.. it was weird. But it depends on your face shape and hair. The shampoo I used and completly loved was Herbal Essences color me happy shampoo... although it is for color treated hair my stylist recomended it to me becase it is super light on your hair that has been chemically treated (including color and perm chemicals)... and once you've used it for a couple of months u can change to Totally Twisted shampoo.. it enhaces those curls and really gives u a volume boost! Luck with your perm and hope it all turns out for the best!

A perm is a perm whether it is to straighten your hair of to add curl to your hair. The only difference is with one you comb the hair straight and the other you use rollers.

Of course, there are several different products on the market for perming. What one does for one person, it might not do for the other.

Just because you had a bad experience with straightening your hair, doesn't mean that you will have the problem again. It also doesn't mean that you will have a good experience with a "curly" perm. Many people have overly high expectations of chemical procedures.

I would discuss with a favorite stylist or maybe a couple stylists with what you are wanting. It might be that what you are wishing for is really impossible for your hair.

If you do choose to go with the permanent, choose a shampoo and conditioner for chemically treated hair. You should wash your hair every other day or more. Your hair should be washed when it looks oily, you have been sweating a lot, or when there is a lot of product build up. Most people should NOT wash their hair every day!

The shampoos you purchase at a salon are superior to the ones that can be purchased at a store. The "over the counter" shampoos are more alkaline (drying and damaging to the hair due to the higher pH) and the "over the counter" conditioners are less emollient (less conditioning).

i have naturally curly hair too, and my best advice is DON'T PERM YOUR HAIR!!!! putting a perm on natural curls will make it fro out! but if you must, any shampoo for permed hair is fine, just make sure you let it be for about 5 days. it's gonna be kinda nappy, but let the chemicals die down a little before you start defusing it and putting lots of products in it. Halo shampoo is great! make sure you use a heat protecting spray for blow drying to make it not frizz out.

after getting the perm, after each wash towel dry your hair scrunching it, use a good curl mousse work through hair and scrunch it as you dry it with the hairdryer, then use hairspray to hold curls in place, or you could go without it.
