He is looking to get some tips. I am not a big meat eater at all, I used to be a vegan so I really can't help him much when it comes to tips because I'm not much of a meat person. He is starting his diet tomorrow and is going into his 2 week induction a.k.a phase 1. Anyone have any tips? suggestions? or success stories?

here's a tip: don't do it. the atkins diet is one of the most unhealthy diets out there. the body needs carbs as an energy source yet the atkins diet forbids them. it's nothing more than a fad and once he stops and resumes eating normal foods he'll gain the weight back. why not try something healthier like the abs diet? it promotes healthy eating and he'll be able to lose weight and keep it off. also an exercise regimen is recommended.

A word of warning, Atkins is not safe. You are eating a high amount of fat, that much fat is bad for your heart! Studies are showing that this is not a safe diet.
Most people that go on Atkins do lose weight, but once you go off you most likely will gain it all back, and possibly more. It is not a diet you can stay on forever as I said, it is not safe for your heart! He should try cutting out sugar, as in candy, junk food. cut out white flour as much as you can, try eating 100% whole wheat bread, wheat pasta, stuff like that. Plenty of fruit and veggies. Much safer than Atkins!!

It is really hard the first two week. Get rid of all carbs in the house. It works really well, if you can stick to it, but once you go off the diet you will gain the weight back plus more. I was on it for two months and lost 28lbs. I could not handle no more and started eating very thing that had carbs in it. I gained all the weight back plus 14 extra lbs. Good luck and I hope he can stick to it better than me.

I also agree, don't do it. Carbs are essential to giving you energy, just tell him not to eat a lot of white bread. Yes Atkins make work short-term but it is not healthy at all. Tell him to eat tons of fruits & veggies, whole-grain bread, yogurt, fish and chicken and EXERCISE! Everyone seems to want to forget about that part.

one of my friends is currently on atkins....all she eats is meat upon meat and side dishes of meat....she has lost some weight...but her personality is changing...shes really grumpy...short tempered....shes just not the same....

Currently, i am watching my calories intake...going to the gym 3-4x a week...so far ive lost 20 pounds in 4 weeks....

My advice is telling him atkins is the wrong way about it....theres a reason that man died ;)

Drink lots of water, take daily vitamins (anytime you exclude a food group, you also exclude the associated vitamins and minerals), and eat LEAN meats. Unfortunately, the foods richest in protein are also those richest in cholesterol. So, unless he enjoys anginas, high blood pressure, and blood clots - he needs to eat lean, unfried meats.
Finally, exercise - this will help to keep his BP and cholesterol down.
