...If you weren't descended from a leaf eating monkey?
The appendix is called a 'vestigial organ' basically it's a left over bit that no longer serves any purpose, but evolution hasn't gotten around to getting rid of it yet.
When it was larger and fully developed in (when humans were more apeish than they are now) it allowed us to digest cellulose (in grass and leaves).
But now it serves no useful purpose (besides getting inflamed and rupturing, which incidentally would have killed you before modern medicine developed).
So why would god give you 'faulty equipment'?

Ummm 'Wise Guy' You can't digest Cellulose, this is a FACT. Don't believe me? Try and live off of grass for a week, I mean if stupid cows can do it how hard can it be right?

'rahl404' the fossil record is far from complete. Something like 0.0001% of the animals that live on the planet actually end up fossolized, just because the conditions that must exist for something to fossilize occur very rarely. It's unlikely that you're going to capture a 'picture' of one species turning into another. But we do have them, ever heard of archaeopteryx? It's the bridge between lizards and birds.

'buttercup' a ruptured appendix is an excruciating way to die, sufferers tend to curl up in the fetal position as it puts less strain on the abdominal muscles, they suffer nausea, vomiting, and fevers, and the mortality rate is exceedingly high.
You can live perfectly well without an appendix, as it serves no purpose. People get appendicectomys all the time and live perfectly fine lives.
And you think god put it there for a reason?

'Wise Guy' you need more examples?
Wisdom teeth
Tail bone (coccyx)
The fold of skin at the corner of your eye is a remnant of a second eyelid present in other mammals like cats.
Goose bumps are a vestigial reflex from when you used to be covered with hair, and putting your hairs on end would increase your ability to retain heat.
In other animals there are many examples as well. For example whales have small vestigial leg bones buried deep in the back of their bodies.

The vermiform appendix is a part of the lymphoid organs alongwith thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, Peyer's patches, tonsils etc. These organs produce B- and T-lymphocytes which participate in fighting infections in the body. The appendix is located at the junction of the small intestine and the large intestine. Small intestine does not contain bacteria whereas the large intestine is loaded with bacteria. With this knowledge it is not difficult to see why the appendix should be there. It is a highly specialized organ with a rich blood supply. We would not expect this if it was a degenerating, useless structure. What about its removal not producing any ill effects? There are other structures in the body that can be safely removed. For example the gall bladder, thymus, one kidney, a part of the liver - none of it would produce any ill effects. This does not mean these organs are not useful. The body has a way of compensating for them. So just because an organ appears small in man compared to other animals does not necessarily mean it is vestigeal. Man and animals eat different kinds of foods and their digestive systems need not be the same. And so I don't think the appendix proves anything in favor of evolution.

The appendix serves as a harbor for bacteria that digest cellulose, something your body has no other way of digesting.

Horses and cows have numerous appendices in their large intestines because grass and other plant tissues constitute the mainstay of their diet.

You can live without your appendix, but won't benefit from the nutritional qualities of the cellulose you eat.

There are no 'vestigial organs', it only gets inflamed and ruptures because you aren't paying attention to what God told us what to eat and what not to eat.

They think the appendix has something to do with the
digestive system (they know it does in animals). But,
humans don't always have all the answers, but I'm sure
God does and he must have put it there for a purpose.
I accept that.

But it was the Mighty Penguin of Nutbarika that gave us the appendix. God had handed off that responsibility to the MPN over 35 million years ago. Everybody knows that!

God had some leftover dust when he formed Adam. Would you rather have an appendix, or a third ear on your butt? Yah, I'd rather have an appendix too.

Therefor Jesus died for your sins to save everyone because the Jews are his chosen race.

Perhaps it does serve a purpose and we just dont know what....

I believe God has done things like that and left circumstantial evidence of evolution to allow unbelievers something to believe in.

You right! At the same point, why do we have two lungs and only one heart, two kidneys and only one liver? Plus the liver is the only organ that can regenerate, why can't any of the others? Bunch of crap if you ask me.
