my niece seems jealous and obsessed of my daughter, yet at the same time, seems to depise her. my sister and i are very close and this is causing alot of problems. i decided to disassociate with them, as my daughter has dealt with this since my niece was 2. my daughter can be sarcastic, but i don't think pinching is an age appropriate response. my sister does punish her, but she doesn't stop.

I think you pretty much figured it out. It could be jealousy and the fact that she wants your daughter to give her attention.

That is a problem, I guess what u may have to do is show her what she's does, is a bother, I mean the next time she does this someone should pinch and punch her to let her see how it feels.
Are u sure ur sister is punising her? because is she is then I would think she would do it anymore. I guess ur sister should also punish her by not allowing her to do anything fun, she shouldn't buy her cute and nice things, take her to fun places, to let her know that what she's doing is wrong until she can see that she means it.
Because the punishment she doing to her daughter don't seem to be working.

well mom i think you need to step in ... seeing that ur already distancing yourself from them (which isnt right either) might as well do something about this mess .. you should really pull ur niece to the side one day and really break it down that you dont appreciate her behavior. If your daughter did something to cause this weird outslashing from your niece then you need to make it clear that YOU! are the person that punishes your daught and no one else. So mom but ur the adult and need to put ur foot down .. before one day the pinching and small things stop and it become flat out fighting ... good luck

Hmmmm im not sure but it seems like shes just jealouse and trying to take her frustration out on her by pinching and such. And at the same time trying to get some kind of attention on herself.

Maybe she has discipline issues.Does she do this with other kids?Maybe she is jealous of your daughter.Your niece's behaviour is unacceptable.Your sister should discipline her when her daughter acts out violently.If that isn't effective than she should take your niece to professional counselling.
