He is already taking TEGRETOL 3 times a day...and it is not working. The Dr. just started him on another med in combo with the tegretol. I hate giving him all this med. (which by the way, is extreemly hard when he constantly fights me). But, my ? is....
Has anyone heard of KEPPRA? I read on the info sheet that it should not be used in children under age 16, but the pharmisist and Dr. say that they think this is the only one that will work for his seizures. What should I do??? He has been so moody (well, more than normal) since we started it! HELP?!

I do not have personal experience with seizures, but I do know plenty of people who have children with seizures that belong to the following support group:

http://forums.braintalk2.org/index.php

Their permanent forum had a major crash back in July, but this one has been set up temporarily until the problem is fixed. I know their are parents there that have their children on Keppra, or at least did at some point. I'm sure they'll be able to help you.

I'd also like to recommend another support group for parents of children with disabilities and special needs. There are some parents there with children who have Autism.

I'm sure you'll find the answers you're looking for. I wish the best of luck for you and your son.

If you question your doctor, then seek a second opinion.
Other than that, I think that while it may not be reccommended for a child so young, the risk of continuous seizures may be more critical than whatever risks are associated with the medication.
The seizures need to be stopped, especially if they are severe or frequent. It's a very dangerous condition.

Your the mother of that child and nobody knows him better than yourself! Just because one doctor says's one thing don't take that for the ultimate answer!!!!! My brother has colon cancer and the stupid idiot egomaniacs said he had just colitis and Crones Disease! I would never EVER take one egomaniacs word for gospel ever! Go find another egomaniac and keep going to different ones until you find one (few and far in between) a good doctor that suits your philosophy and will actually listen to you. Alot of those idiots don't like to listen they just like to tell you what they think is right for you. That is my biggest pet peeve with doctors. I don't think very highly of alot of them. I would not give up though, your bound and determination will pay off eventually but probably not before your ready to kill someone but you will eventually find one, I promise!! Just don't give up!

I have epilepsy and am on depakote and phenobarbitol. It keeps my seizures under control. My heart goes out to you. It must be so very hard with a toddler. God Bless You
