It depends on your type of unit. I'm in the MP's and I have:
4 sets of ACU's
1 Set of PT's
2 pairs of boots, one cold weather and one temperate weather
1 patrol cap
1 beret
1 lbv (load bearing vest) contains the following:
1 canteen (also was issued a camel back)
1 first aid kit (it's really just a big bandage)
1 rigger belt
1 Blackhawk thigh holster for the M9 Beretta
1 helmet (we no longer use kevlar, newer helmet is much better)
1 flak vest
1 compass and protractor
6 pairs of socks
6 t-shirts
1 riot baton
I think that about covers it, without getting into the dress uniform, which by the way is changing next year to all dress blues, instead of the current (dress blues, class A's (dress greens), Class B's (dress greens w/o jacket), and mess uniform)

Every soldier receives a standard issue at the moment of entrance into the Army. 4 uniforms, 2 boots, underwear, PT's, shirts, belts, Class A and B uniforms with respective dress shoes, tie, socks and undershirt, hats and wet weather gear. First aid kits, 'riot batons', holsters, a compass, etc... are NOT basic issue, if even issued at all. I might have forgotten an item or two, but that is the basics.
Special issue items like Kevlar vest and helmet, LBE's, extreme cold weather boots, desert boots, poly underwear, snow shoes, wet weather gear, weapon and such are issued by the new unit the soldier is assigned to every time he changes duty station. These special issue items are not the same everywhere you go. It depends on the units mission and environment, (clearly a unit in Alaska is not going to issue desert boots, and a unit in Georgia is not going to issue cold weather boots).
Ammunition, knives and MRE's are only issued when in a training environment or deployment. The knives are bayonets that can double as a knife, if they even issue them anymore, ammunition varies on the weapon you have issued and the mission at hand.
