1 Timothy 2
1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

7Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

8I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

13For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

I think he's saying that people ought to pray for those in power so that those in power might be granted wisdom and use their power for peace and good. But then again, according to the rest of the passage, I shouldn't even be saying this because I ought to guard silence.

By the answers I see here, seems like more women will suffer the wrath of God then men because they do not like the arrangement of God. The message is straight forward enough, pray continually for all including those in authority so that we can continue on in our faith without trouble where we live, pray that non believers and all should come to an accurate knowledge of the truth and be saved. Women and men should dress modestly professing Godlyness. Women are not permitted to teach in the congregation and in the congregation women should never be given authority over men. Because it was Eve who was deceived not Adam. Adam was created first then women, man is the head of the woman.

Sounds like it is saying that women were the fault of mans fall, but actually, no one, twisted Adam's arm. It's saying they blame Eve, and therefore, all women should be silent and let the man lead them. It also inferred that man is incapable of being deceived. That's not surprising in a patriarcal society in which that was, and some old traditions being passed down to now, like the wife and children taking the name of the father, who is actually supposed to be the head of the house. But is this law in effect today? NO. Timothy was not God, and he received the apostleship from Paul, who had been imprisoned. His message was actually for the Jews who were really caught up in the traditional ways as shown through Jesus speaking against some of their ways. This was simply one of the apostles giving his version of something that was told to him. You know the tell me a secret game, one tells someone they tell someone, and each version is slightly different from the actual truth,

It is true, God has an order and if we obey and submit to his order we can see the real power of God, I was teaching an adult sunday school class with men present in it and the Holy Spirit convicted me of that because I am a woman and I should not teach or usurp athority over men.

Try:

1Ti 2:1 First, I want all of you to pray for everyone. Ask God to bless them. Give thanks for them.
1Ti 2:2 Pray for kings. Pray for all who are in authority. Pray that we will live peaceful and quiet lives. And pray that we will be godly and holy.
1Ti 2:3 That is good. It pleases God our Savior.
1Ti 2:4 He wants everyone to be saved. He wants them to come to know the truth.
1Ti 2:5 There is only one God. And there is only one go-between for God and human beings. He is the man Christ Jesus.
1Ti 2:6 He gave himself to pay for the sins of everyone. That was a witness given by God at just the right time.
1Ti 2:7 I was appointed to be a messenger and an apostle to preach the good news. I am telling the truth. I’m not lying. God appointed me to be a teacher of the true faith to those who aren’t Jews.
1Ti 2:8 I want men everywhere to pray. I want them to lift up holy hands. I don’t want them to be angry when they pray. I don’t want them to argue.
1Ti 2:9 I also want women to dress simply. They should wear clothes that are right and proper. They shouldn’t braid their hair. They shouldn’t wear gold or pearls. They shouldn’t spend too much on clothes.
1Ti 2:10 Instead, they should put on good works as if they were their clothes. That is proper for women who claim to worship God.
1Ti 2:11 When a woman is learning, she should be quiet. She should follow the leaders in every way.
1Ti 2:12 I do not let women teach. I do not let them have authority over men. They must be quiet.
1Ti 2:13 Adam was made first. Then Eve was made.
1Ti 2:14 Adam was not the one who was tricked. The woman was tricked and became a sinner.
1Ti 2:15 Will women be saved by having children? Only if they keep on believing, loving, and leading a holy life in a proper way.

This has a much better rendering on a few points.

As for women, the church in Ephesus seems to have been having problems caused by some women. Paul also wrote Gal 3:28 There is no Jew or Greek. There is no slave or free person. There is no male or female. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are all one.

The chapter debunks some of Calvin's FALSE TEACHING. Verse 4 tells us that God wants everyone to be saved, yet Calvin taught that God had preselected SOME to be saved.

I respond that this wasn't said by Jesus, it was written by a lunatic 100 yrs,and retranslated again 1200 yrs, after Christ's death. The fact that it's still in the Bible today is more related to the religious politics of the late 4th C and 16th C, than to the teachings of Christ.

1Ti 2:7
v1-7 The disciples of Christ must be praying people; all, without distinction of nation, sect, rank, or party. Our duty as Christians, is summed up in two words; godliness, that is, the right worshipping of God; and honesty, that is, good conduct toward all men. These must go together: we are not truly honest, if we are not godly, and do not render to God his due; and we are not truly godly, if not honest. What is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, we should abound in. There is one Mediator, and that Mediator gave himself a ransom for all. And this appointment has been made for the benefit of the Jews and the Gentiles of every nation; that all who are willing may come in this way, to the mercy-seat of a pardoning God, to seek reconciliation with him. Sin had made a quarrel between us and God; Jesus Christ is the Mediator who makes peace. He is a ransom that was to be known in due time. In the Old Testament times, his sufferings, and the glory that should follow, were spoken of as things to be revealed in the last times. Those who are saved must come to the knowledge of the truth, for that is God's appointed way to save sinners: if we do not know the truth, we cannot be ruled by it.

1Ti 2:15
v8-15 Under the gospel, prayer is not to be confined to any one particular house of prayer, but men must pray every where. We must pray in our closets, pray in our families, pray at our meals, pray when we are on journeys, and pray in the solemn assemblies, whether more public or private. We must pray in charity; without wrath, or malice, or anger at any person. We must pray in faith, without doubting, and without disputing. Women who profess the Christian religion, must be modest in apparel, not affecting gaudiness, gaiety, or costliness. Good works are the best ornament; these are, in the sight of God, of great price. Modesty and neatness are more to be consulted in garments than elegance and fashion. And it would be well if the professors of serious godliness were wholly free from vanity in dress. They should spend more time and money in relieving the sick and distressed, than in decorating themselves and their children. To do this in a manner unsuitable to their rank in life, and their profession of godliness, is sinful. These are not trifles, but Divine commands. The best ornaments for professors of godliness, are good works. According to St. Paul, women are not allowed to be public teachers in the church; for teaching is an office of authority. But good women may and ought to teach their children at home the principles of true religion. Also, women must not think themselves excused from learning what is necessary to salvation, though they must not usurp authority. As woman was last in the creation, which is one reason for her subjection, so she was first in the transgression. But there is a word of comfort; that those who continue in sobriety, shall be saved in child-bearing, or with child-bearing, by the Messiah, who was born of a woman. And the especial sorrow to which the female sex is subject, should cause men to exercise their authority with much gentleness, tenderness, and affection.

It means that there is only one way to get to God and that is through His Son, Jesus (who died on the cross for our sins). Because God is Holy, therefore cannot look upon sin...Hope that helps and God bless!

Since the first verse says "therefore" you have to look back to see why it is there for.

1 Timothy 1:18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; 19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

Paul is exhorting his young protege to engage in spiritual battle through prayer so that his ministry will have divine power to bear fruit. If you look at this passage from the book of Ephesians where Timothy was ministering you can get some insights into what Paul was writing about.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

As to the second portion of this passage Paul explains his purposes in giving these instructions in chapter 3.

1 Timothy 3:14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: 15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

As to the verses regarding women teachers it has to do with divine roles ordained by God. It doesn't mean that women can't tell other people about the faith or help them to understand Scripture. It just means that the leadership roles in the body of Christ have a certain order with men being subordinate to Christ and women being subordinate to Christ like, God fearing men who have been gifted and called to positions of leadership.

Verse 15 is explained a little further on. It doesn't mean that a women is saved apart from grace through faith. It means that a godly woman doesn't have to try and take the place God has ordained for men but should stand firm in her faith and fill the role He has assigned to her as a woman. Here is Paul's description of women who fail to do that.

1 Timothy 5:11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.

I think the entire King James version is rediculous, because it was translated so it could push the personal views of the church rather than of the original translation
