You're a wonderful, caring person. It sounds like your Aunt and you have a great relationship, so perhaps she will listen to you, if you ask her to stop for your sake, as well as of course her own sake. Tell her you are there to help, and go and have a read of all these fantastic tips http://www.quitguide.com/help-someone-quit-smoking.html

Why does everybody in here that asks that question think that THEY have 'control' over somebody else's actions, like smoking? Aunt will STOP when SHE IS READY TO quite. There is nothing you can to to 'get her to stop' or 'make her stop'. You can pretty only much continue to tell her that you don't want to see her sick. Besides, smoking is EXPENSIVE. Wal Mart sells Marlboro 100's now at $56.00 a CARTON. That's a carton of 200 cigarettes, which comes out to what, 28 cents a cigarette. Lung cancer, emphysema, throat and nose cancers, heart disease, it's all caused by smoking. She will quit when she is ready to quit. Constant nagging will cause resentment, though.

First, you may try talking to her and tell her how you feel. Second, try giving her or leaving pamphlets around her house explaining the dangers of smoking. Try getting some pictures of people's lungs who smoke (they don't look pretty). You may get information or pictures off the internet, or try the library. Quitting smoking is a hard thing to do, and unless that person wants to quit, it may be difficult for them to actually see the harm it does to them. I know where I live they have a program called 'Smokers Anonymous." It's where people who have quit smoking go to get support from other people, so they don't go back to smoking. You might check to see if you have something like that around your area, and suggest it to your aunt. You seem like a very caring individual and she is lucky to have you as a niece. I do hope this helps you out a bit. I wish you the very best of luck! God Bless you!
