Sometimes places let you take home a puppy, so maybe you can bring a husky home (a nice one) and see how your dog reacts. If it's bad, a dachshund can't do much to a dog that is like 20 times bigger. So yea! Good luck!

I own a Siberian Husky, and it all depends on how you raise the dog. First off you need to make sure they meet on neutral territory. Do not introduce them at your home because your dachshund may try to become dominant over the puppy and that would not be good. Second thing you need to know is that huskies are extremely hyperactive dogs. They need a lot more exercise then a dachshund, and they are very free spirited and can be a task to train. Read every book you can on the breed and every website out there before you make that final decision.

You might also be beneficial to adopt or rescue a husky. There are so many out there that need homes.

That depends on your lifestyle - the dogs themselves have very different needs - are you aware of the personality differences of the two breeds? Husky likes to be outside - needs lots of exercise - needs a lot of grooming and combing and walking - can play too rough with a Dachshund - meanwhile the Dachshund needs little exercise and little grooming and prefers to be inside and can't jump too much without risking injury to his spine - these two dogs are not well matched as buddies - and yourl ifestyle will be very different if you try to appease both dogs since their needs are going to be so very different the Dachshund may get jealous of all the added attention the Husky will require for the grooming and exercise. Good Luck

I don't want to scare you but my roomates siberian husky just bit a yorkie. He gets along great with big dogs. For instance he loves pitbulls and dogs about that size but he is way too rough on smaller dogs with no consideration. My mother has a dachshund. Dachshunds are known to have sensitive backs so I would be extra careful.

Some people say that Huskys have too much of a prey drive to be with smaller pets, however I believe its all on how they are socialized and brought up together. My folks had a 7year old ShihTzu when they bought their Rottweiller puppy. The ShihTzu is still the top dog and now hes 14 years old. They get along great, although when she was younger he was constantly reminding her of his status, but she realized this, and now they are inseperable. It can work, but i believe its some thing that you'll have to watch closely.
