I have to agree with the rest but I will keep it simple. The general epistles are all of the New Testament except for the 4 Gospels [Matt, Mark, Luke, and John], Acts, and Revelations.

I say it this way because I do not want to get involved in the arguments as to who the writers were, etc. That is something I hope you will seek out for yourself and do not just accept the view or opinion of others without good evidence. Yes my friend do seek constantly clear truth or just accept the concept that you are not sure for now OK.

The epistles were a way to communicate to other believers the growth and the understanding of what was seen as the truth during the early church history. There being no big fancy organizational headquarters, etc and no elaborate organization as many have tried to form today, letters and oral updates were the communication links.

Thanks for allowing me to answer your question and now do read them all to learn about the opinion of what is the correct way of life in my view. In fact why not read the whole bible including both the Old Testament and the New Testament. And while doing it do smile, have a great day and think while you are reading.

depends on what you mean by general epistles.

Epistle means letter - and there were many letters that were written and are part of the New Testament

Paul's letters were: 1 & 2 Corinthians (letters to the congregation in Corinth), Galations (letter to the congregation in Galatia), Ephesians (to congregation in Ephesus), Philippians (to those in Philippi), 1 & 2 Thessalonians (to those in Thessalonica), 1 & 2 Timothy (to Timothy), Titus (to Titus), Philemon (to Philemon, this letter is also from Timothy), Hebrews (to the Jewish Christians in Judea),

The letter of James was written by James to Jewish Christians scattered abroad

Peter wrote his 2 letters to all Christians

The Apostle John is believed to be the author of the 3 letters of John (not to be confused with the Gospel of John - though written by same person) 1,2,3 John are found just before the book of Revelation

The letter of Jude was written by the disciple Jude who was the half brother of Jesus (see Matthew 13:55, which lists the names of the 4 fleshly half - brothers of Jesus, all 5 having Mary as their mother)
