Hi there,
I have been following a few of the Yahoo'ers on here and I have seen a tremendous amount of people with their views towards God and then those with the views lack there of. Why is it that those who want to prove that there is no God wont prove it. When I say prove it, i dont mean that they should talk about how war is wrong or how killing is bad but a true statement about God, not man, not how people react but the true nature of God. I do not mean how bad a life is but something that is not effected by man, but life. When explaining their faith (pro or con) they would hit the nail on the head not about how Jesus gives them fuzzy wuzzies but how life is truly effected with god there. Why cant we get past the crap in life about biases and emotions and come to a point that truly stands the test of time. I am curious if any one can come up with something irrefutable one way or the other. I am truly interested and I think there will really be some decent answers.

Okay here... First of all, I am posting this question not as though i am searching for truth... so for all those who are accusing me of being a non church going type that does whatever with my time... shame on you... dont be so quick to judge. My question was aimed more in a non biased perspective. As for my view on the matter, here you go. There are Tons of reasons in my life why God does exist but more than that, why more than exist, he is still alive and kickin'. Waves, Stars, Methodology of life, eternal structure of how when we go to war, there is always some form of conflict resolution (those who push on the middle east war... the world has not been blown up yet... that is a plus) regardless of which side you are on. Babies, the fact that we havent imploded on ourselves yet, that if we did start from scratch... where did the scratch start from? Emotions dont need to be part of this equation, just what is going on that you have no control of that proves or disproves a creator?

I think I kind of know what you are asking ...
God isn't really about fuzzy wuzzies (though sometimes we have that emotion over His intercession). How many of you out there know that feelings don't always equal facts? For me personally, I knew for the first time that He was really, really real when I was pushed beyond all my limits in a certain situation that was completely out of my control, and I fell on my face before God and begged for relief, and almost immediately the entire situation changed. It was nothing short of miraculous. That moment affected my life so profoundly that Psalm 40 is now my battle cry. God doesn't always act that dramatically (that we can see), but that did it for me. The problem is that if there was some concrete way to prove that there was a God, then there wouldn't be any use for faith. Faith is simply the hopes of things to come; in fact, the Bible says that faith IS the evidence of God. (Heb 11:1) And God also says that the world around us should be proof enough that He exists. In closing, I'll leave you with 1 Pet 1:5-9 ...
God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you'll have it all--life healed and whole. I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it's your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don't see him, yet you trust him--with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you'll get what you're looking forward to: total salvation. {taken from Message version}

To gently correct a previous respondant to your question, I would say that faith is a belief not based on tangible evidence. The post I am referring to said that faith is, by definition, not based on truth. There is a very big difference.
Can I prove that God exists? Maybe not to you. I can give you situations in my life where I have clearly seen the hand of God working. 6 years ago my wife and I were both working. We were living on a budget that required both incomes, but my wife was pregnant and wanted to stay home. We prayed about this, and just shortly before she was to deliver I was offered a job which exactly, to the nearest $100 dollars, replaced her income. I was not looking for another job; someone came to me out of the blue. That was God working in our lives.
When we decided to increase our voluntary gift to the church we did so without making any changes to our budget or lifestyle. We were living the same lifestyle with less money. We simply had less unexpected expenses come up. I can think of no explanation other than God.
These are two examples from my life, and there are many more. These may not be sufficient to you, but they leave me no doubt that God exists and impacts the world around me. You do not have to search very long to find much more miraculous stories than these. The only question you have to ask is if you can accept the truth that this is evidence of God or merely the result of impossible odds coming out in the favor of some lucky person in a bad situation.

Faith, by definition, is a belief NOT based on truth. So when you ask, "Can it be proven that there is a God or god or gods or goddesses or anything else?" the answer is no. But similarly the existence of all those named above cannot be disproven either.
Every human experiences life truly uniquely, due to personality, time, place, etc.......... so everyone's way of relating to the universe is also unique. The crap about biases and emotions is really what makes a person identify with one faith system or another (or none at all). No one makes a spiritual/religious choice based on logic or fact - just can't be done.
Hope that's helpful. Feel free to respond.
***Edit - another poster pointed out my typo- I DID in fact mean to say faith is "a belief not based on PROOF", not TRUTH. My apologies. My typing went faster than my brain.

You have I guess a reasonable question but fail to respond to what you believe.Which is one of the reasons we have such a problem. There are many great talkers in the world today but few doers. In order for a Christain to present God to someone they must take on the nature of God .The Bible calls it walking in the Spirit .But to many are trying to walk in the flesh and in the spirit at the same time which only leads to more confusion. Then there are those who refuse to believe in God at all , and that leads to much more confusion. You seemed to be really con fussed ,so much so you don't know what to believe. As for me God has changed my life so drastically,I find myself doing things I never could do so I know He lives because He lives in me.You say you are "truly interested" well how truthful are you.Why not give God a chance and read your Bible , start attending church , ask Him to search your heart and reveal what He wants you to see.And then you can have the "Best Answer" for your Question. You'll get more than 10 points I guarantee it.

Very Very strange to even talk to the evolutionist these days...Darwin believed in God but had not looked into the microscope nor peered into the endless outer space. The design of things made proved that there was a Creator.
He just didn't have the accurate knowlege of the Masters purpose of it all. Today it takes more faith to not believe than believe! It should be easy for the intellect to grasp design since they pride themselves in understanding. Yet if I said to the average student "take a simple meat chopper made of 17 parts unassembled and place it into a box and start shaking it back and forth for awhile then peer into the box and see if it assembled itself. How long would it take him to see that it is not going to happen by chance? So lets get real in todays world of intellects. How many would order a computer in parts and upon delivery start shaking it in hopes of having it ready for use any time soon? No one with half a brain would say that computers ...cars...buildings...planes ....boats medical devices and so forth happened upon this planet without research and design. So why play with the DNA and Heart...mind and spirit of man without giving credit to creator? Add the delicate eco system ,plant , animal and ocean life the intellect is so eager to study and copy Wow what a shock...a Creator...a purpose...a design. so much for the theories of chance...sorry I can't see the reason to ignore God and Credit man for Genius.

If you still have any patience left after reading all these answers I would invite you to read my blog I created a year ago (at least the first entry or two). In it I conversed with athiests and explained to them my take on the "proof of God" issue. It is a slightly different take and could stir some welcomed thought. I wish you the best as you try to figure out the Truth. Keep searching my friend.

"the true nature of God"
Do you honestly believe, you, a mere human, can possibly conceptualize and be able to communicate the true nature of God? Take a look around you. Better yet, take a moment and walk outside. Look at the night sky. See all the stars and constellations. Can you possibly conceptualize the "meaning" behind the universe itself? Explain it to others in a way that the average person can understand?
You are smaller than a grain of sand when compared to what's "out there!" So am I. Consequently...
This argument will continue until the universe burns out or until we as a species evolve to the point where we can truly understand it and agree.

I think part of the problem is that some of these questions can be answered fully only with a 3 or 4 paragraph report and nobody has that much time to elaborate. And after a while, the questions like "Prove to me that God doesn't exist" or "Christians/Muslims, explain this..." get redundant, so we lose patience for them.

You can't prove something doesn't exist unless you are given a definition of it in the first place. No, I can't prove that a god(s) doesn't exist. I can prove that Yahweh doesn't exist..based off of the contradictory attributes ascribed to it in the Bible. I can disprove it to the same extent that i can disprove the existence of a square circle.
It is not incumbent upon me though to disprove anything. The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim. It is up to you to prove to me that your god exists. So far no one has..and whenever you do provide proof, you will no longer need faith and no one will believe in god anymore..they will know it exists.
