Do you have to be black to be a "National Baptist"? I'm confused about what "National Baptist" is. Is that a denomination of Baptist?

Founded in 1886, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (Convention) is the nation’s oldest and largest African American religious convention with an estimated membership of 7.5 million. The National President, Reverend Dr. William J. Shaw, has led the organization since 1999. The mission & purposes of the Convention are:

I think White people can be National Baptists, just like African-American people can be Southern Baptists.

I consider Baptists to be a political party, not a religion.


I base that on their actions and priorites.

People who associate themselves with denominations and not with Jesus the Son of the Living God - MAY be associating themselves with the wrong people.

I'm not the one judging here - that will be God's job - but I sure would hate to be associated with something other than God's Church.
