What am I to do?

I've gotten old
I'm painfully lonely (never married, haven't had a date in years)
I'm tired of the bar scene
I'm awfully quiet/shy natured
Most will consider me boring
I'm perhaps too honest
I've got a full-time job that doesn't pay enough and I don't have much marketable skills
I don't have a place of my own and can't afford one
I'm very forgetful
I'm constantly thinking of suicide

You seem like an intelligent, articulate gentleman who has bad luck and fears being hurt again. It also sounds like your depression is a result of both a chemical imbalance and the string of difficulties you have experienced in life. I'm in a similar situation, and I have found several things that help me immensely: 1) Faith - a personal relationship with Jesus, as well as being a part of the men's group in my church. 2) Writing a book - it gives me an outlet for my often intense and painful emotions, and I enjoy it a great deal. 3) My kids - they are a source of great joy (I am divorced). 4) Medication - antidepressants can make a world of difference. I put off using them for 30 years, and now I am FINALLY starting to get my old spark back now that I am finally taking them. 5) Knowing that God loves me. 6) Hobbies 7) The RIGHT music. Music is extremely powerful, and you can choose to either listen to upbeat music or not. The choice is yours. I think you know suicide is not the answer, because it robs you of all the possibilities the future may hold. You don't need a woman to be happy (I learned this the hard way when my depression did not go away after getting married). But if you get involved in something that has meaning for you, and you get past the depression (I KNOW it's really really hard to do that - try the medication), you just might meet someone who shares your interests. In any event, please don't give up on yourself or on life - it really is worth it. God created you specially with your particular skills and talents, dreams and ideas. Make some friends and try to put your unique combination of talents to some good use, and you will begin to feel much better.

Since youv'e lost hope for your life, I would suggest you volunteer in community services. A homeless shelter, a rehab center, or a shelter for battered women. These people have lost hope in life just as you have, but for many different reasons. Maybe volunteering once a week could be a good start. Your not the only one that feels you got the worst in life. Good luck.

I dont know why you are so down.... you look like a very nice man. Just down on yourself and depressed. I think you are too kind of a man and thats why women have hurt you in the past. Dont give up, you will find the one that will make you happy as well as you making her happy!
