A cardio workout is exercise that increases you heartrate. You need to start with a resting heart rate and go from there. Step aerobics is a great cardio workout. Believe it or not...McDonalds were giving out antimated DVD's for free! There were 4 or 5 different ones. They really work if you want to stay at home and have a daily cardio routine.

To get an effective cardio workout, you must raise your pulse by about 30 beats per minute, and keep it at that level for 20 minutes.
I usually run at least 20 minutes on the treadmill when I go to the gym. You should always lift weights before cardio (cardio tires you out) and drink lots of water while exercising.
Cardio isn't just the treadmill. You can walk, jog, run, use the eliptical machine, stairmaster, exercise bike, rowing machine, anything that gets your heart rate up.

Personally I think running is, but if that is not an choice, I also per fer step aerobics second. If your doing it for your heart..kudos to you. For weight loss, change up with light weight training. Unless you want to bulk up, use heavier weights
