I worked at a detox center....AS A LANDSCAPER....The folks I talked to who were alowed out about the grounds, usually had to detox for a week or more.
This is my only experience, as a landscaper, so I was no threat to the poor folks trying to work out their troubles.
I figure they had no reason not to tell me the truth.
At least a week, usually more!

If you drank too much and are merely hung-over, this will pass in about a day with rest and water.

If you mean alcoholism, it depends on the severity of the case to break the physical dependence. Emotional and mental recovery may last a lifetime also depending on the person and how committed they are to recovery.
