After that she hiss at me and than I have to bath her every time she does this. Is there any way that I can discourage her of this behavior? Other than hitting her.

I've seen cats doing this in shelters where the litter box is in their cage with them. It's just a wee bit gross.

I really don't know HOW to keep her from doing it. Spraying her with water to keep her from laying in it would probably deter her from using it AT ALL (which definitely wouldn't be a good thing). Is it covered? If it is, try taking the cover off. And buy a pet bed if you don't already have one. Maybe if she has an alternative, she won't find laying in the litter box so comfortable anymore. If the litter box IS covered, try finding one of those cat beds that has a cove over it.

Hitting her won't work, you would only make her want to stay more in the cat box. Now, shooting her with a 12-gauge shotgun would most certainly do the trick. Then, all of your problems are solved. No more hissing from the cat and no more expensive water bills from having to bathe the damn feline so much.

She likes it in there. It's familiar. If the box is kept clean, it shouldn't be a big deal.
Don't hit the cat either, because they aren't human- not that you should humans either, but at least some of them can hit back. All you'll do is make her a mean cat. If you don't have the patience, then find her a home.

In strange surroundings, cats and kittens will stay in their litter boxes, because to them, it's something familiar to them and they feel safe.

Put an old towel in a small box to give the kitten somewhere other than the litter box to spend her time getting used to her surroundings. You may have to put her in the box a few times until she feels comfortable and safe. Put the box in an area that's quiet and out of the way. When she feels secure, she'll come out and explore her new home, just give her time, speak softly to her and try to pick her up just stroke her when she approaches you and eventually she'll be inviting you to pick her up and smother her with love and affection.

Well, you had better find a way other than hitting her. Hitting a cat will only make her a fearful cat and she will not be loving with you as she will be afraid and avoid you.

I expect you have been using this "technique" to correct other typical kitten behaviors that you don't like.

Please find this kitten another home where she will have some understanding and love. You are warping her emotionally.

Does the cat play with toys to keep her occupied and feeling content? Try a catnip toy a "cave" type box with the old towel in it. Maybe it will be a new domain for her to rule. You can always try a "little" of the cat box scent on the towel to familiarize the box.

#1-NO HITTING
#2- ask the vet if she needs to be seen
#3-some cats just do that even if they are not sick. Kittens tend to do that but they grow out of it. Hitting her is just going to make her think she can't trust you and that she has to AVOID the box completely. Hitting is going to create a worse problem.

It is not good for cat to bath her frequently. My opinion is you have to hide the box. Give her some toys or whatever to help her 'move around'

I know this may sound weird, but - buy an extra cat tray, and instead to sand, go to the Nursery and buy a square of that instant lawn that they sell - "plant" that in the extra tray. I guarentee she will want to lay in that box instead!

Perhaps you could get her one of those soft kitty beds that they sell in stores. I know this sounds mean....but this is what my mom did to my cat (when I grew up). During Christmas time my cat would like to climb the Christmas Tree...so everytime my cat would do this my mom would spray her with lemon juice (you know the kind that you can buy in those little plastic fruit shaped lemon containers).
