They take it personally because it opposes their point of view and asker believes they are right. I think if you're asking for other's opinions you should be prepared to recieve opinions contrary to your own and respect it. Whether the answer is serious or not, someone still took the time to read your question. Thats how I feel about it.

Some of the questions are very personal. Some people are really asking questions that may help them make decisions that could be very important in their lives. If someone makes fun of them or gives a flip answer, it can be a slap in the face. They trusted people enough to be serious and are met with sarcasm.
A shame really.

Why do you get angry when told something you don't want to hear? Why do you get angry when hearing an answer that may be correct, but is to technical only the answerer and a very few others understand it? Also, some people really are dorks and idiots. It is sad and true.

Some people actually want and need an answer to their question. They aren't just here for your amusement.

They don't want an answer. They have a pre-conceived notion that they want legitimized. When you answer with the truth , they are stung and lash out.

Fear.
Either they didn't really want an answer, or the (true) answer just "outed" their ignorance/hatred/etc. And they can't stand that...
