I went school shopping for my kids and was talking to my mother in law on the cost of the items I bought for back to school shoes, clothes etc.She asked me if I save the bills on how much everything costs and I said of course I always do.She asked me can I have them and I said yes. When I got home I thought about it and now I'm wondering what for?I didn't ask her why and I did say yes already.I don't want to give it to her.She keeps reminding me to bring it to her and even today said don't forget it next time you come over. How do I get out of it?Why do you think she wanted it for?

Maybe she can claim for them somewhere or get some form of reimbursement for them. I don't know but maybe you should just up front and ask why? Just be like........"I can find one or two, is that all important? what do you need them for?"etc........Try that and see what happens.

Just make a copy of the receipts and give her the copies, but keep the original ones. Or the other way around. If you are divorced or something maybe she's going to make her son pay at least half of the bill. Which he should be doing anyway outside of the child support. She may know something about claiming it as a tax write off. Ask a tax preparor about that.

Maybe she wants to help out and give you some money towards school shopping....be honest, and tell her you are uncomfortable giving her the bills because you don't want her to give you money and that you regret complaining about it. Then go on to tell her that everything is financially ok at home and her son is a wonderful provider.

I think she wants to buy the back to school items for the kids.
I believe it's meant as a thoughtfull gesture even though it's coming across somewhat unpleasant in a way, no ill will is meant.

Ask her why she wants to see the bills. Maybe she wants to pitch in for costs, if you are that uncomfortable though just some out and ask her why she wants them if she dosn't give you a reason, tell her it is uncomfortab le for you to do this and give her the reason. She needs to hear the truth if she is just being nosy.

Maybe she was wanting to give you some or all of the money you spent back to help you out..That was my first thought..Say something like I've misplaced it and as soon as I find it I will bring it to you ,was there a reason you wanted it ? maybe she will tell you if not unless your going to need it for some reason let her have it and wait to see. What can she do with a reciept..Let us know I am a little curious myself..

Maybe your state has a law that you must document how you spend child support money and your mother-in-law is helping her son plan a case for reducing his child support due to some "extravagant" lifestyle.

Tell your mother-in-law to go **** herself. I'm sorry, but she has no business interfering with your expenses.

I would simply ask her why she wanted them, you do have that right. Then you can always give her part of them, or all of them depending on her answer. You also could remind her that you may need them to return something. I wonder if she is using them as "gifts" or "contributions" on her income taxes.

Well, in the family I came from, it could have meant that she wants to pick out some of the receipts and pay for some of it. She is afraid she can't say that she'll pay for EVERYTHING. So, she will pick out some of them and say I'm paying for this.
Good luck

Just tell her , I am sorry but the bill got thrown away with the bag.
That happens to me all the time. I can't imagine why she wants
it anyway.
