Yes, I know what it is.
Some do literally worship Satan as a fallen angel in the Christian Bible.
Others believe he is a "dark force of nature".
Some say "I'm a philosophical Satanist", which means they've realized magic doesn't work. All it is in that case is "hedonism", and most Satanists lives are so boring and dull, what would be the point?
The Satanic Bible is usually the basis of any of these "philosophies", and was written by Anton LaVey (a bankrupt, pathological liar, wife beater, and pimp) from an obscure right wing political tract, superstitous writings of John Dee, and Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". The super amazing philosophy of the Satanic Bible: If it feels good do it- - hardly earth shaking in the late 1960's. LaVey was SOOO successful at his "magic", he had to live on public assitance in the late 1970's!
There is plenty of things decribed in LaVey's writings that would be considered weird, antisocial, and sociopathic like:
Nude girl is used as an altar (Satanic Bible, Satanic Rituals)
A human skull is used in Die Elektrischen Vorspiele ritual (Satanic Rituals, p. 109)
Human leg bone or arm bone is used in Homage to Tchort ritual (Satanic Rituals p.137)
Woman dressed as nun urinates before group into a bedpan in the Black Mass ritual (Satanic Rituals p.43)
Urine is then sprinkled like holy water (Satanic Rituals p.44)
Man climbs into coffin with nude woman (or nude man if he is gay) in Le Epais ritual (Satanic Rituals, p.59).
Sounds pretty nuts, now doesn't it? See, most people don't like religions where you have to use skeletal remains and pee pee, and stuff.
Biographies about LaVey in mention how he and the Church of Satan once ate a human leg that was amputated from a 20 year old girl (Satan Wants You by A. Lyons, Church of Satan, by B. Barton) and claim he even fed it to his kid.
So guess what? They're still loosers.

Does a Buddhist worship Buddha? Of course not. Does a Nudist worship Nude? It all depends on what you would consider "worship." Worship need not describe groveling before a deity or expressing an unhealthy attitude that diminishes ones self worth. Unfortunately, many Satanists view worship in this negative light, then move to an opposite extreme; exalting oneself as godhead while disregarding the universal life-force. As a result, we've witnessed nonproductive, egomaniacal infighting between Satanists.
We suggest a *balanced perspective* coupled with an appreciation for irony because the creator and the created are co-dependent! It is foolish to imagine a Christianity based entirely upon altruism and it is foolish to imagine a Satanism based entirely upon selfism. To lead a happy and productive life, balance is the key!
Also, we need to view "worship" in a different light: a feeling of love, adoration and devotion towards the archetypal forms of whom we are a physical expression.

Yes.
I don't, personally, but I'm sure somebody does.
Without doing any research, I'd have to guess that it's based on the bad guy from somebody else's religion. This seems like an odd, and possibly suicidal, approach to take.
If I were going to start a religion, even if it were based on a guy who looked just like the Christian Personification of Evil, I think I'd call it something different just to avoid any misconceptions and subsequent lynchings. But what do I know.

It is the dedication to anything not in complete keeping with God's Word, or the teachings of Christ. One does not have to be a direct follower of Satan to be doing his work, as Jesus said there would be many claiming to speak in his name, but weren't.

Satanism is the worship of ones self. Selfishness, in a nutshell.
Satan was kicked out of heaven for holding himself in higher esteem than God, and he really doesn't care if you, me, or anyone else worships him, as long we aren't worshipping God. The way most of us are tempted is through the desires of our flesh. When we sin to satisfy them, we are putting ourselves before God, and Satan celebrates.

That was a cool video explaining the misconceptions of satanism. Although really they were only reworded, it makes Satanism look alot nicer than their image gives them.

Yes. Satanism has nothing to do with believing in Satan (or any other type of devil).
Satanism is the belief in the power of oneself instead of a higher being or god(s).
