Alright, from an unbiased viewpoint. And I don't mean only atheists, but from any person who actually does this

Lemme rephrase the question. What's all the fuss?

Mira, Im appreciate your answer, but even from a neutral viewpoint, you're still placing a religion in a stereotype that every christian agrees with the laws

As a buddhist I have been kind to other people on Yahoo Answers, yet I have not received the same treatment in return. Many people have told me my religion is wrong, and the majority of these people were, sad to say, Christians. Or so they said. What others don't realize is that some Christians are openly hostile to other religions while others truely follow jesus's teachings. There are also some atheists which provoke these Christians. However, when they generalize they draw not only the aggresive christians/atheists into the argument, but also pull in those who are normally kind people, but strike out viciously in defense of their faith or lack thereof. This escalates because, contrary to their teachings, many Christians don't "turn the other cheek" when attacked, causing further retaliation. If you've seen the movie "End of the Spear", this type of conflict is embodied in that. And that sums up the conflict.

Iam not an atheistic, every man or woman that do not believe that there is a God is an atheist, so do that mean that the believe in Satan. There are many denominations, types of churches, Christian such as Catholic,Presbyter,Methodist,Baptist,Lutheran and so on. Obviously there are members in each one have a relationship with God. So this is were the descrimination come in, because they believe in a God of there choice and each religion wants to say he never was here on earth, many say he not a man etc, But in reality there is only one God. People stereotype because they all may belive in Baptist so they all join a Baptist church, or they may all belive in Catholic. The real issue isn't what church a person religion descriminate against but wheather the person has Jesus Christ living inside of him or her so that they can has a relationship with God.So if the Atheist do not believe in God who do the believe in There just got to be a higher power than man ,if not give me some answers who made the sky were did the water come from how could a sprem enter into woman and become a baby were do the baby life come from how do we grow from 6pound 9 inchs to 6feet 200 pound and there is so much more can you give me these answers and maybe i will become a atheist,

I agree with your point of view that we should not condemn, insult or otherwise harrass other people because they have a different religious belief than our own. I do feel that we can, and should (from a Christian point of view) share what we believe to be the truth. This must, must be done, however, in such a way that it follows the teachings of Christ. That means love. And if you are using profanity (sometimes poorly veiled), insults or otherwise ridiculing a person you are not acting out of love.

Stereotypes are also wrong. Religion and faith are individual. Righteousness and justification are individual. Personal faith and belief are the cornerstones of religion (my religion), not mob mentality. To insult every member of a particular religion is to pretty much eliminate your chances of actually reaching anyone from that religion in a genuine manner.

As far as 'It's just a religion...' Religion, more specifically faith, is, in my opinion, the single most important issue in a person's life. Our time in this life is short, but we will exist forevermore in the reality of hell or the reality of heaven/in the presence of God. While I do not agree with how many people express their opinions, I do believe that religious opinions should be among the strongest positions we take up on any issue. If you truly believe that you will have an eternal existence after this life then you must realize that this life is so, so short in comparison to the afterlife, next life, however you want to refer to it. To say that it's just religion is to say that there are more important things in life. I cannot agree with that, because I believe the most important part of our existence will not occur until after we die. What we do here determines what will happen next; the choices we make, the beliefs we choose to have faith in will decide our future disposition.

If we do not strongly hold opinions in these matters, then I do not believe that a person has a strong faith in anything. On the other hand, a strongly held opinion can still be argued in a respectful, open manner without insult or injury to another person. To make a distinction between two ideas is to discriminate, but in more modern language to discriminate has a negative conotation that has no place in a truly thoughtful and mature discussion regarding religion, faith, etc.

Poeple would rather rant and rave then admitt there is a small chance they may be wrong in their beliefs. They have been raised to think their way is right and no other can be possible. Its like not being able to see the forest for the trees, we know together they are a forest, but why admit that when say the oak is stronger and taller than the pine?Doesnt make sense to me either, but thats how it happens.

"You're not doing any better than we are"
Who is "we"?

I'm not discriminating, but I would prefer not to be legislated based on your religious views. For instance, gay marriage. Now, I'm a heterosexual married female, so it doesn't really affect me one way or the other. But what's next? Are you going to try to outlaw premarital sex? Or start banning other religions such as paganism because you think they're "wrong"?

I don't really care about your religion, I just don't want it imposed on me. Just as you don't want my beliefs imposed on you.

What's wrong with 'discrimination'? To 'discriminate' merely means to make or perceive a distinction. It is only recently that the word took on the meaning of a 'prejudicial' distinction, in the context of 'equal rights' laws. All that means is that it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed or national origin in matters pertaining to employment, education, public access or housing (did I miss any?). So, there is nothing inherently wrong with 'discrimination'... the problem comes up with regard to the CRITERIA that one uses in making choices within those categories. For example, if I decline to hire you because you're ugly, you stink and you have bad breath, that is OK. Also, if I want to declare your religious beliefs to be stupid and irrelevant, in this venue, that's OK, too, since it has nothing to do with employment, education, public access or housing. So... what's your problem?

Most atheists were once Christians and some of them like to pick on Christianity because of some kind of unnamed vendetta. Not all us like to denounce you, we just keep to ourselves. And yes, some of us ARE educated in the Bible, but at least we know what is in it and not making hasty generalizations. We just simply don't believe. As far as the bashers, like I said, they're out for revenge. That's really all it is, and they like to take pride in trying to prove you wrong.

Its cause alot of people need something to believe in, and when they cling to something they take it to mean their universe. When someone says otherwise it feels like someone is trying to smash their universe. So they will fight and quarrel to defend their universe because without it they feel they are empty

If you think that all of the discrimination is coming from the atheists, you need to work on your reading skills.

ps: I'm agnostic, so neutral in your rant.
